    Customizing BF2....

    Hi All,

I had the idea the other day to possibly change some things in bf2 to my favor, but I don't exactly know what effects this would have as far as PB or other players. I'm just talking about changing graphics on billboards, etc. Small things...

    ...can others see them?
    ...how picky is PB?

    Thanks, Giteen

      What?? Hacking??

      NEVER

I simply want to change small things in bf2 to my liking. Nothing to benefit me as a player online, I would be against that. Now may I have a real answer? I came here for honest help.

You can't change anything in MP as far as I'm concerned.

        There's mods you can try...

          Crap.....I have a small problem...

I did edit 1 dds texture (the intel billboards in Highway Tampa). It worked great in a LAN session alone, but I tried to join a real game and PB wants the original. I put the original back but PB can't tell so I can't join any games...

I DON"T WANNA REINSTALL, why do they make it so gay?? I didn't do anything but edit an IMAGE.

I'll just listen to others next time.... How do mods work if I can't do even this...??

You can change things on your end, like the config files that highlight when you kill someone and with what weapon so it's easier to read.

As long as you make a back up of the original files you should be fine.

Yes, BF2 is very picky and PB.. Don't do anything, get BF2 editor, and you'll have to make a new mod, which means you cant play with anyone that does not HAVE THAT MOD. I wish it was like CS:S, but its EA.. can't say much:shock:

No I personally like that people can't legally run around with red and green textures for friends and enemies, or get a laser sight on their sniper so they can no scope really easily.

Mods are a completely new set of textures, files and images in a completely new folder inside the /mods one. So PB figures "ah, this is a mod, let's not bother about edited files". If you do choose to make a new mod you can not play this mod over multiplayer with people running normal BF2.

If you own a server (unranked) you can slightly mod and tweak this server to for example change spawnpoints locations, change vehicle spawns, change weapon damage, etc.

As far as a bright colors mod, I agree with you there. I've seen the effects of that in UT and it sucks.
But it isn't really possible to no-scope with sniper rifles in BF2. The deviation on a sniper rifle unscoped is so bad you can't hit someone standing still from 5m away. The bullets literally go out at a 20-40 degree angle.
