Weird rank problem

A friend I shoot with all the time noticed the other day that his rank was weird. He's working on LV 33 Capt II and it show XP required -34833. When he went into a room that night the rank shown there was LV 45 Brigadier General II. When he got out of the room he checked his rank and it was Brigadier General II still......
Any ideas what happened??? The server he went into was a Listen Server run through Multiplayer.

Now it really gets interesting. After ending a match, my friends XP required for next rank starting scrolling and the numbers went to over 60,000 before he stopped it. The XP required bar went off the chart to the far right side of the screen. During the next match he was promoted to Captain II (backwards in rank by the way!!!) Luckily he had saved his players directory from the night before and deleted the current players directory and copied and pasted his last saved players directory back into the game and his rank of LV 44 was restored. Has anyone elese seen this happen????
