Why does Punkbuster have to fail?!

I am sorry if this is coming off rather angry, but I am sick and teird of punkbuster. Why does punkbuster make it so hard to just play CoD4? I have had so many problems with it and CoD4 in the past and I don't get why it has to be a pain. Thankfully I have fixed those old problems, but NOW I have to have one I can't even fix.
I get this error: PnkBstrB.exe Handshakeing Failure

    Whiskey Tango Foxtrot

Now, I have gone to this site: http://www.gamereplays.org/callofdut...uide_hotfix_13

and tryed to do what it told me to do and I have updated punkbuster more times then I have remember and I can not fix this problem. I have looked up and down the net for fixes and I get not much.
*sighs* would be very helpful if someone help me, because I can't post this in the support part of the forum, because of the fact no one answers your posts to much (maybe just me, but yeah).

I have no idea what to do anymore; I don't want to have to give up on CoD4 online, but I don't know what else to do to get this fixed and back up online.

hmmm... i have never really had a problem with PB. The only time i have ever been denied by it was when i had packet loss, and that was a particularly peak time.

I've never had a persistent problem with PB. I've had the occasional kick for problems, but never anything that reoccured.

The handshaking problem can typically be narrowed down to virus protection, firewall or other internet security program blocking.

Most people here know how i feel about PB. I personally think that admins do a 500% better job than PB could ever do.

Things would be a whole lot worse if PB didn't exist. The problem lies in the fact that, unlike consoles, everyone's hardware and software differs, so it is very hard to make software that is 100% compatible.

Everyone has their odd problem, but only about 5% of players have consistent issues like you have. In that case, you should be investigating the problem yourself rather relying on Punkbuster to fix the errors.

Try and fresh re-install if your really desperate.

I am currently having no issues with PB "touches wood", its the fact that imo it doesnt do a good job.

When we buy a game, we are also buying the services that come with it, one of them being punkbuster, punkbuster doesnt do what it says on the tin imo, it does half its jobs, catching a few hackers while the others slip through.

I wouldnt hire a painter for full price if he was only going to do half his job.

PB was acting up last night for sure.
Had a bunch of kicks from PB authentication issues. Had to tell people to manually upate their clients.
So, yah PB can be a bitchy little app.

I haven't had any real problems with PB except when I was new to Vista and didn't knew I had to run PB as an administrator.

But it's still a ***** sometimes. Kicking me for no reason sometimes but it's working alright just the moment after.

My Firewall has never had a problem with running CoD4 ever, why would it freak out about it now?

That may have been the reasoning why my punkbuster was not working too well last night. But easiler in the day, Punkbunster was working just fine and not kicking me out of servers for no reason.

I do agree. I start to see more and more people using aimbots in servers now and PB doesn't stop them. I do think admins would do a WAY better job then PB does.

Never had a problem with PB and BF2. My only problems I remember from BF2 were the patches. 2142 was when PB started to become more of a pain to deal with, but the problems were fixable. Now with CoD4, the problems with PB have gotten 100% worst and start to become unfixable and the only work to fix it is to uninstall it and reinstall to even get it to work online again.

Due to updates to your firewall it may have detected punkbuster as being updated and blocked it without notifying you are is blocking packets from punkbuster.

I would suggest going through your firewall and making sure the the punkbuster A and B processes have full access. Don't forget to run punkbusters punkbuster's service check application that checks for problems.

Computers are tricky things. Never assume that because something worked last week that it's working today. Something could have caused settings to be changed... who knows?

PB is a piece of ****, that's for sure.

I executed the makemod.bat in the modwarfare directory and now I'm getting kicks because of a md5 mismatch...

Apart from that, I don't see it catching any real cheats. All of them can be configured to bypass it even though it has system-wide access. PB is pathetic. I've seen better cheat protection made for free and I hope something like that will happen in CoD4. There's a ****ing ton of working cheats out there right now.

Cheaters should be publically anal-raped by an elephant and then shot in the chest, that would solve the problem.
