NOTICE: To all Battle Recorder/Battle Director Movie makers

Sorry to say this, but it is officially confirmed that the Sir Communities BattleDirector NO LONGER WORKS WITH 2142 PATCH 1.40!

HOWEVER, there is a way to get BattleRecorder movies with no nametags or server messages! First off, we will need to add a line to your "GameLogicInit.con" file, which is located at "C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Battlefield 2142\mods\2142". MAKE SURE THAT YOU BACK IT UP BEFORE YOU EDIT IT. COPY IT TO A SAFE LOCATION, YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO PLAY ON A RANKED SERVER WHILE THIS IS EDITED!

Open up this file, and add the following line: "renderer.drawNametags 0" (No quotes). Now, when you load up the battlerecorder file, open up your console ( ` ). Type in "renderer.drawHud 0" (no quotes once again). Viola, a clean battlerecorder file, ready for you to Fraps!

    -Fin

EDIT: Included a ZIP file with a clean "GameLogicInit.con" file, just incase you ignore my warning and edit your only copy (and forgot what you edited :p)

I've been able to use it fine, but i do things a little different. I use BattleDirector to launch my demo file, then i record using fraps.

So dont go uninstalling BD, just use it to start your demos and to remove the nametags.

If you want to get rid of the fraps watermark, you can do that in Sony Vegas,

    Click this icon.

Then, a window should come up, like the one below.

Click on the corner of the rectangle and drag slowly in the direction of the arrow, whilst looking at the screen. The fraps watermark should disappear but don't do this too far up, as you'll lose alot of your quality and you'll have less on the screen, so, just a little drag.

    I hope this helped.

Errr... Don't think you quite understood.

Half of all BattleRecorder files DO NOT work with the battledirector AT ALL. You can still view files that you record in single player or local match, but NOTHING that you download from a server running battlerecorder will work. NOTHING. You can't even play Freecam, it simply loads up, and then crashes 2142 with no error. Go to the Sir Community forums, its confirmed by Sir.Elxx (the creator of BattleDirector). Until he gets 2142 1.4 Compatible version of BD out, we are stuck using this method.

O Rly? I don't see any 2142 BattleDirected Movies from you since after 1.4 came out... I truly don't think you are getting what I am saying. If you are actually understanding what I am saying, then you are a lucky bastard because your BattleDirector is still functioning.

I couldn't get BD to work either. I'm currently making a movie using the method you described above. I've never used BD before "first tried using it after the 1.40 patch came out" so I'm not sure what it does for you other than just remove the name tags. Was that all it did? I think it was supposed to do something with recording camera locations, but I dunno how that worked.

You could record a "Camera Track" and then render it high quality. I was never able to get the Rendering to work (Granted I only tried once, but it took all day and when it didn't work I gave up on it). I have a legal, registered version of FRAPS so I just FRAPSed it. Nowadays the BD doesn't even play back the file freecam, which is horribly annoying.

PS: Can't wait to see your finished Video Zarious, all your others have been AWESOME!

That is what happens with me. I've been using the method you suggested in your first post as well.

er, yes, 4 days ago I was using Battledirector for my next movie, but in the last few hours it has suddenly stopped working, tried everything then came across this thread
Nonetheless, I shall try what has already been said above

Any idea on the ETA of this fix?

Here's what Sir. Elxx has to say:
The Sir. Community is a long standing gaming community that specializes in unorthodox gameplay, filming, modding, and beta testing.

"It seems that the 1.4 patch for Battlefield 2142 has broken the Battlerecorder feature, causing the game to randomly crash to desktop when viewing Battlerecorder files. This affects the game both with and without BattleDirector.

I am looking into a way to fix this. Sorry for the inconvenience.
                      "

The BattleDriector forum at the Sir Community boards is full of threads about the problem.

Well, Elxx is wrong on one thing... I have yet to have a crash with the normal BattleRecorder. Battledirector, all the time. BattleRecorder, none at all.

Apologies for the epic thread bump, but this seems more efficient than creating a whole new topic. After some experimentation, I was able to set up a workaround that resolved all of the BF2142 crashes that I've been encountering. Not quite sure whether it'll fix all of yours, but it's worth a try.

The file size is relatively large because it includes custom BF2142.exe and BF2142Pace.exe files. Don't worry, it launches them right from the BattleDirector folder so none of your original .exe files are modified. I have only tested this with the EA Downloader version of BF2142 1.40, let me know if you have a CD/DVD version of 2142 and whether this fixes your issues. And make sure the console at the lower right says "BF2142 crash workaround enabled." when the app starts up. Good luck :p

Yay! Thanks Elxx, now we can use BD again (which, IMO, is a TON more convenient than the in-game BR)/
