Vista issue.

Hi,

I read almost all threads regarding the startup on Vista with BF2142! I still haven't found a solution on how to play the game, the game crashes on start, black screen, then back to desktop.

I tried running the game as windows XP, 2000 and as adminstrator. Nothing works. I reinstalled the game 4 times still nothing. I did the video setting thing, nothing changes, game doesn't start.

What could be my probleme?

remove the BF2142 folder from my documents try starting up the game it will reset your configuration so if you have changed something it doesn't like it should revert it to default.

1.80GHZ dual core, 2Gb RAM, 256MB Nvidia Vid. Running 32bit Vista.

Tried that, Windows Vista tells: BF2142.exe has stopped work.

I have the EXACT same problem including the error message.
System Specs:
C2D 2.0
8600M GT
2 Gigs Ram
Windows Vista Ultimate 32 bit

I have not ever been able to get 2142 to work on my lappy...it frustrated me so bad I gave up.

found a solutions, installed XP on a partition, all works :P

Im running vista home premium
8800 GTS
2gb ram
quadcore 6600

My game starts up and i can log in and everything
but when i join a server it crashes. Right as i click join
it crashes, no load screen or anything.

ideas?

I don't know if these bugs are conneced to mine, but I think so:

Two bugs in BF2412 and BF2 (same bugs, reproducable):

Bug 1
* Start the game
* go to the options page
* go to the sound (options) page ->CTD

Bug 2
* Start the game
* Choose single- or multiplayer
* connect
* at the moment, the map is loaded -> CTD

Hardware:
Core 2 Quad Q6600
2 Gig Ram
Creative X-Fi Fatal1ty
Nvidia 8800GT

Software: Vista 32 bit Ultimate

I tried a lot:
* XP comp. mode,
* UAC switched of, so run as admin is not possible/necessary)
* Installed a patch (KB940105 ... should have been related to that bug, but did not help)
* Did a clean reinstall with deleting the folder in my documents ...
* installed latest NVidia Beta driver (169.28)
* Changed default sound to onboard realtek

Nothing solved the problem!

Next, I will try to install the newest DX9 (DX November 2007)

Hi, I'm having trouble playing BF2142, it appears ro installed correctly, but when I run the game to play, it shows the BF2142 splash then tells me I need to insert disk to play - the disk is in!!!

Am runnnig vista home premium

BTW have done all the run as admin & xp compatibilty

Switch off XP compatibility and the DVD will be recognized again. (I solved this one, but cannot play as I seem to have a sound issue ...)

I solved my problem. As I presumed a sound problem (CTD while trying to switch to sound options page and right after having completed the loading of a map) I deactivated all sound devices in hardware manager and ... viola ... it worked! I had no sound, but the game was running. So I activated only the sound card I needed (Soundblaster X-Fi) and left the on board sound card deactivated. That did the trick. No CTD's anymore :yay:

Make sure you have all the latest drivers for your hardware and all the hotfixes for Vista & Nvidia.
