    Onboard sound crashing my game?

Recently after I built my new computer I've had a strange error thats been occurring for the past few months. Whenever I'm playing any map, occasionally my sound will start to slur and kinda slow down the game. Now when this happens I usually expect the game to crash. It just goes black screen and no way to end the process or anything causing me to do a hard reboot.

Could it be my onboard sound? (P35-DS3L, Realtek 1.84)

On board sound is generally frowned upon for use in FPS's. You'd be better off getting an add-on sound card. The on-board sound is probably responsible for the problems you are having.

Whilst i agree to some extent with Grosskopf, onboard sound should work in game.

But, i think if you have a bit of cash banging around you could get yourself an X-Fi XtremeGamer OEM. You'd notice better quality sound and the problems would most likely disappear.

If they don't then the likelihood is that you need a driver update or a complete driver reinstall.

I've tried a fresh driver reinstall but the problem still persists. I've just purchased a X-Fi Xtremegamer card like you suggested and I'll post back with results within a day or so.

        Thanks again
