Using headphones for VOIP and external 7.1 for game sounds

ok here is the question:Is there a way to use your headphones to receive VOIP chat while game sounds still trasmit through external speakers?

It could probably be done using a USB headset, because those use their own sound processor, and not the onboard or soundcard audio. I imagine you set your teamspeak/ventrilo to the USB audio. ?!

I recommend using only headphones though because you'll be able to hear an enemy's direction much clearer.
