BF2 won't load with a network that has no internet connection.

    Howdy,

From what I can figure, BF2 "freezes up" because I have a network set up on my computers but no internet connection. Its from one of the more recent patches because when I run BF2 before patching, and have my network card enabled, it loads fine. When I apply the newest patch, it hangs on a black screen - I'm assuming while looking for the internet.

It's not my computer because I've tested it on my laptop, which is connected to the network wirelessly (the desktop is hardwired to it), and the same thing happened: the game loads fine, with the network connected, prepatch. After patch 1.41, however, I have to disable the connection to my network to run it.

I really wouldn't care much, except this means that it's not possible to lan with my roommates, which is rather stupid that they have the lan option but the game won't load without a connection to the internet when a network is present.

I tried looking this problem up, but found nothing online about it. I've looked on here for some time and also found nothing.

Thanks for any help you can provide,

Well, it has nothing to do with the hardware, because I've tried it on several computers and it always goes the same. It is definitely the fact that I have no internet on my network, because when it hangs on the black screen if I unplug the Ethernet cable from my computer BF2 will then continue to boot up.

It is, for sure, something that was added with one of the new patches, because unpatched, straight-out-of-the-box BF2 does not do it.

So, basically, if you have no internet connection you can't LAN. Has anyone else run into this problem? Is there a way around it?

I unplugged the router from my phone line and gave it a try.
On my PC (AMD FX-60 - 2gb ram) I got a black screen for about 2 minutes, then the login screen appeared.
It could be that the slower the PC the longer the black screen.

I've got an e6300 C2D, so we'll see. I guess I've not given it enough time. We'll see.

            Thanks.

Do you logon to BF2 with your local account?

That worked. It takes about two minutes and then finally decides to stop trying to connect to the internet.

                Thanks.
