Switch Seating or Seat Switching

I've tried it, but to no avail. I center on target and my chopper "spins out" when I switch to gunner.

Any advice???

First of all get a gunner, second if you are going to do that fire the missile right after you switch before your chopper spins. It's a timing thing.

Aim the helo about a quarter turn left, hit F2, right click, and fire. Takes a bit of practice to get quick and accurate, but easy enough, once you get the hang of it.

Change the F2 button to Space so you cah hit it without moving your arm Just press Spase (or F2 if you wish) and right click right away

They're very dated, but if you're just starting out as a soloer, it's the sh!t.


PS. GO FASTER. Switch to your gunner view, IMMEDIATELY right-click and keep left clicking in a controlled manner...

Actually you can push and hold right click before you push F2, you'll switch directly into the TV view. Then just left click.

Aha! I had the same problem soloing as the OP until I watched Sloi's vids and read ThatEvilGuy's very helpful tip. Explains why Sloi looses a Hellfire occasionally when he switches to a TV shot. Mouse 1 + 2 button depressed and "C" (key binded to switch to gunner position) pressed almost simultaniously....now I can fire a TV dead straight. :yay:

However, I do have one problem....getting back into the pilot seat without resorting to pressing the F1 key with my index finger as this sometimes results in my accidental hitting of the Esc key with my third finger and instant death (I have big hands). I cannot get any other key to work for the pilot position (position one - F1). For example; I bind the "V" key as the secondary key (or primary) but it doesn't work in-game. How can I fix this so I don't have to move my gorilla hands far from the WASD position?

mess with your hotkeys till you find one you like to switch seats. depending on fast you can switch seats turn that much to compensate.

Anybody who says switch seating is just dumb.

And to answer the thread, I push my middle mouse button to the right with my index finger and right click with my middle finger probably within a tenth of a second. I've done it so many times I have it down to a science. I have pushing the middle mouse button to the right mapped to F2 on my mouse when BF2 is the activated window.

Logitech mice ftw.

Doing it that fast has obvious benefits, such as being able to do it in the middle of a barrel roll without losing speed in the roll (switch seats just after the apex of your first roll, as you start to "correct" the heli again and the chopper is upside down, you won't lose speed and contiue to do another 1-2 rolls by the time you switch back to the pilot seat)


In the middle of a slide ( going into a hard slide dodge, it's easier to do this to the left, that way when the chopper starts spinning to the right it looks like you're still in the dodge, if you go to the right the slide will start to fall apart and you will be easier to hit)

Doing it for perfect range (buck the nose of the chopper down, snap it back up as hard as you can and switch when you're parallel to the ground) your chopper will turn around and travel in the opposite direction of your enemy every time)

Cynic covered it pretty well. But yeah, after some time you do it so fast BF2 doesn't handle the speed and gives you a bug. Tbh I think it's less than a tenth of a second, 0.05 is what I would guess is the fastest you absolutely can switch. EXCEPT of course if you use macros to handle the switching part - and that is just completely gay.

Well I've got my key binds sorted and just spent about an hour soloing in singleplayer and it's not hard hard as some make it out to be. OK, the bots are somewhat easy (predictable) targets but I need a lot of practice before taking my new fledgling soloing skills online for real.

I have a lot of respect for expert solo'ers now. :salute:

The timing is also a little different in single player, too. I have my 2nd seat bound to my right mouse button and in single player if I tap it I'm automatically in TV mode. It takes two clicks online. It isn't a huge change but it's something to consider.
