    Spotting

    A few rants:

Why is it that on most servers, people don't spot enemy targets? I simply don't understand this. I'm a chopper guy and yesterday I played on many servers where we had no commander and no one on our team would spot. Normally, on a decently populated server this isn't a big problem as you will find targets any which way you look, but I usually prefer to play on midly populated servers where spotting is key. Of course, on some maps it is easy to find targets, especially if you are familiar with all the armor spawns and routes. But generally speaking, if your teammates continuously spot the enemy, it makes the chopper guys' jobs a LOT easier, and in turn, you will be saying thanks every 2 seconds to your chopper teammates for eliminating all those armors that come your way.

Next, those useless commanders really piss me off. I'm not talking about the ones that fly jets or drive tanks - they should be kicked without warning. I'm talking about the ones that do the useless things - give UAV, drop artillery, and give obvious attack orders to squads. These are useless. PLEASE SPOT THE DAMN ENEMIES ALL OVER THE MAP. You can do this by hitting the SCAN button, then right click on the red dots that show up and press SPOTTED. Do this continuously and you will see how those armors and choppers will get eliminated. If you do this, your ground pounders will not even need UAV or artillery support as jets and especially choppers will eliminate everything you've spotted. If the SCAN button is greyed out, it means the satellite post has been destroyed. To remedy this, simply put a supply drop on it and it will repair. I realize this is really basic but it needs to be said as most people still don' get it. So, in conclusion, screw UAV, screw ARTY, and screw giving orders to your squads, JUST SCAN AND SPOT EVERYTHING on the map.

Lastly, what's with those pesky guys who insist on getting in the chopper when you've been soloing and you have a score of 40-2? You kindly ask them to get out as you've been on a role and don't need a gunner or pilot but they refuse. I think what people need to do when they get into a server (running an air map of course) is the following:

    1) Look at people's scores. If you see someone who has TONS of kills and few deaths, chances are he's been in a chopper or jet. Leave them to do their job and don't interfere by trying to take the chopper or jet away from them or insisting to be a gunner when they don't need one.

    2) If you see people with lots of teamwork points, they are most likely running around capping flags. You will want to join this squad.

    3) If you look on the radar and see lots of people spawning at the main base even though your team has flags, then you know who the idiots are. Write to them in the chat and tell them to join a squad and stop spawning at main. Chances are they won't read it though, given the fact that they are idiots. That's another problem, a lot of people don't read the chat, especially commanders. Commanders definately need to read the chat.

UAV, artillery, and attack orders from the commander are not useless.

Instead of trolling, you can post reasons or explanations behind your logic, or lack thereof.

UAVs are fairly useless (in air maps) because a commander can achieve roughly the same effect through spotting, but across the WHOLE map rather than 1 fixed location. A spotted unit only stays on radar for a few seconds, but even when it disappears, the players will get a rough idea of where the enemy units will be going. Secondly, ENEMY ARMOR SPOTTED or ENEMY HELICOPTER SPOTTED grabs your attention more than the annoying beep of the UAV flight. In all fairness, I didn't actually mean that you shouldn't use UAVs at all, but making spotting a higher priority as this helps jets and choppers be far more effective. When jets and choppers are effective, ground troops will barely need UAV and artillery support.

And don't get me started on attack/defend orders. Commanders give these like they are giving candy to a baby. You clearly label your 2 man squad CHOPPER SQUAD but the commander gives you an order to defend a flag. You keep telling him, "please commander spot something instead of giving me an attack order" but he doesn't read the chat.
Next, think of how many people actually spawn on their squad leader and play as a team. Very few. Very few people even join a squad to begin with, adding to the uselessness of attack/defend orders.

... and that's why I play lonewolf. I try to rely solely on myself and it works fairly well for the most part.

i agree with most of it except the bit about soloing.... just because you're on a roll doesn't mean you have to deny other players the chance to enjoy the game, they have just as much right as you do to get kills.

32 lone wolfs will lose to 5 squads of 6 troops and a commander using voip, lownwolfing is fun i admit but to win consistently you need to squad up, its fact and whoever disagrees is wrong I'm afraid.:salute:

Uh, except when their lack of skill is actually costing me personal enjoyment (which is the whole point of this silly little exercise we call gaming), kills per minute and tickets for our team. Thanks, but if I'm doing well alone, you can take a seat over there with Chris Hansen.

"Lonewolfing" isn't for everyone or every purpose, naturally. Would you care to agree that helicopters and jets don't fit your post, as they operate alone with minimal input from the remainder of their team?

At the end of the day you may be the bolox in a jet or chopper but when you have been capped out because you were to busy camping whilst a squad got capping, you are left alone in the air picking your arse thinking its 1 vs 32 I'M SCREWED...

I see it on a day to day basis, the guy may well have 90 kills and no deaths but his team has lost because they got capped out. You even finish with a gold but YOUR TEAM LOST which in-turn makes you a loser.

You may comeback and say that this sort of thing doesn't happen to you because your so l33t your team will win because you are soloing and taking care of the Sky's and ground troops, What you need to remember is that you fall into the minority of players that can actually change the way a games plays out, just because its you doing what you do best but the rest don't have this, thus they will fall into the majority of people and lose every time.

Its more of a percentage thing i suppose and the majority out number the minority so therefore lone wolfs will lose to the other team that have squads.:salute:

If the helicopter or jet's performance is such as you describe it above, I propose that he has fulfilled his duties admirably. I suggest instead that the remainder of his team be replaced with more competent players. Your thoughts?

l33t? Yes. But the scenario you've proposed does happen. However, the blame doesn't rest with the helicopter if all armored vehicles have been neutralized in a timely and regular fashion: I've fulfilled my end of the bargain, so while I may technically lose as a result of being on your team, we all know I share none of the blame.

You also fail to account for talented lonewolves who, by sheer coincidence and circumstance, end up working together in a temporary fashion to achieve a specific goal, only to return to lonewolfing afterwards.

I can appreciate that you wish to keep things simplistic, but it's actually multifactorial. Don't be so quick to take a sh*t on your air support because they go at it lonewolf style.
