Im not usually the sort of person who says this, but you must really suck at some of the guns if you need to use a script to gain an advantage over another player.

So the mousewheel is not a bug and not an exploit. The quote is a month old, I don't know if that was before 1.4 was released?
Thank you for proving my point. Which is what I said exactly. Mouse clicking takes a hell of a lot of attention and is nowhere near as effective as mouse scrolling or full auto. As such, its up to the player to utilise it to the max, depending on his skill level. IW didnt create an obvious ROF limit (like BF2 for M16), so that supports that thought, and now this quote.

The fact that they specifically let you bind shooting to scroll wheel, shows that they were aware of the future inbalancies this might cause. I suspect that mouse scrolling will get patched, or ROF will get limited within the next 2 patches.

I'm not the one who came up with the idea to use scrollwheels, mouse applications and other forms of scripts/macros to automatize the shooting of singlefire rifles: I'm simply responding to the gradual shift of balance by fighting fire with fire. I said it before and I'll say it again: when they prevent people from doing it, I'll stop.

QFT. As soon as any developer even says they don't want people doing something I, for one, will stop, but they've said nothing about it so it's fair game for those who want use these 'techniques'.

I don't even use scroll wheel, always scroll too fast, so clicking works fine, so what's the big advantage? They don't have to move their finger as much?

I don't see how you got that from the quote? The developer states that the mousewheel binds are intentional, but they will look into it because some have complained.
            Nothing about "rewarding" any skill.
Beside I do not agree that mouse-button-clicking is a skill that has a place in a FPS game. They might as well make your reload speed dependent on how fast you can click the button, it makes about as much sense

That doesn't make sense. If they were aware of future imbalances, why did they specifically include it?
It might get patched, but so might the clip size of the P90, or the recoil of the M4 etc. Should people stop using them too?

Maybe the semis are to strong in full auto, but I can absolutely not agree with the idea that the weapon is fine if you have to click the button but overpowered if you use the mousewheel. That is like saying everybody but the young and twitchy should only use SMG´s and full auto rifles.

Guns should be balanced by their ROF, damage and recoil

thats a pretty bad response, if someone was hacking on a server you were on (blatantly hacking eg 10 headshots in a row) you wouldn't go out and buy a hack and say until they fix it I will use it.

But it is, and it affects the perfomance severely. Which is why Im using the term skill. Simple lagshooting, target leading and aiming is easy if the mouse button is pressed down. With continuously clicking, its a whole new different ballgame. Compare this to the old hand on the head and hand on the belly rotation trick.

And while IW hasnt said directly, anything about rewarding skill, you shouldnt ignore the logic behind the obvious. Semi auto rifles, are like manual gearboxes. Once you get the hang of them, they are faster and better.

M4A1 recoil is a non-issue. P90 clipsize is a non-issue. They are well balanced and unexploitable.

You may not agree, but thats how things work. If you want to create a fair tradeoff between ROF, damage and recoil, then semi-auto rifles dont fit into the equation if their ROF is higher under certain circumstances. I would accept the ROF to be higher with players manual input, thats rewarding pure skill and is a welcome sight.

Guns should be balanced by their ROF, damage and recoil
I wouldnt keep things as simple as this. Considering how different, yet similar weapons in RL are, we can add a whole lot of meaningful parametres into the equation of balance. But right now, COD4 is flawless. If the dilemma of semi-autos being used as full autos with various aids, excluded.

                  That is just an opinion.
Disregarding explosives, I would guess that 2/3 of my deaths are from the P90 or M4. I cant recall being killed by an auto G3/m14 even once.

So the "popular vote" says that the M4 and P90 are the best guns, while the full auto semis are a non-issue.

Btw you can not call the use of an intended feature an exploit. Maybe overpowered, but being killed by a weapon does not make it overpowered.
According to the stats you posted the G3 is equal to the M16 and AK47 in everything but clipsize and max ROF. And its not eve sure that the max ROF is attained by using the mousewheel, that would empty the clip in 1 second.

I know its not quite on topic, but i find myself getting killed way more by LMG's than any other gun, how would the script effect these guns?

So I guess it would just automate burst fire at the same ROF, not much difference in my opinion.

you miss understand me, im not saying its exactly like pressing fire 3 times (yes it is slightly easier because it give more concentration to aim), but the accuracy is the same if you just tapped out 3 shots without compensating for recoil. The gun climbs just as much script or no script wheel or no wheel

I am saying that you cannot condone scroll-wheeling which give the exact same results as the script. you cannot condone the script either and hate the wheelers.

If they did patch out the wheel from being the fire button then i would say the script should go, but until then it achieves the same thing for those that do not have a scroll wheel (if there is any body out there...) or have not got it set up (for what ever reason).

It isn't the same kind of situation. In the present case, Infinity Ward has the power to alter the control settings in a way that would disable keys that fall into what some consider a gray area.

I don't expect them to have control over external software, but they could easily put a cap on the number of key/button requests allowed for a given period of time. They could combine that data with the PB system to kick people who are using macros or device software to go beyond what they allow.

None of this is difficult to code. The question is whether or not they're willing to make the effort necessary to eliminate this exploit. I suggest you think twice before clicking the Submit button.

Or they could just set the ROF to an acceptable value, instead of trying to outsmart every hardware manufacture, hacker and kid on speed.

LMGs kill with 2 or 3 shots with stopping power. You could make a script that fires 3 shots with a perfect timing so that recoil has no effect on distance shots.
You click one time, and you get 3 perfectly accurate shots in the fastest possible time...

Frosty is right about this. Spineless people like you only make it worse.

Catching macros/scripts is very hard and I wouldn't wait for it to happen. Everything PB can see are the legit clicks that the script emulates.
If it's not difficult to code, I suggest that you spend those 10 minutes and do it instead of complaining here.

For the other solutions you are right, that wouldn't take a minute in case of the auto-fire, but it would also limit players that play legit.
Also scripts in general would still be a problem and it'll always come down to people's integrity weather they use them or not.

that is where you are wrong, they achieve exactly the same goals therefore

                                script = mouse wheel

if you cant accept that fact then i suggest you rethink your argument because there is no difference you are still abusing the game engine by setting fire to mouse wheel
