My Keycode Is In Use!!!!!!!!

Hi i have been playing cod for a week now, i bought my game legit and have had no problems with it, only today i have tried loading up on a server and it gave me the error message that my key code is in use, i have tried over a dozen servers and get the same message, what does this mean? and how do i fix it?

Right before you received the error did the game crash? Same thing happened to me the other day. I waited about fifteen minutes and it worked ok. Apparently when the game crashes it still thinks you are connected even though you had to reboot your computer.

if you are using Steam, verify your files.

As bpickell suggested, if your system crashes or your connection times out and you try to connect straight after this happening the verification server will still read your key as being online, just leave it for a few minutes, close the game completely and in some cases restart your connection and things should be sorted.

There is no need to reinstall the game.

It should now work with no problems, plenty of time has passed.

If your going to do anything ensure you backup the mapdata file located in C:\Program Files\Activision\Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare\players\profiles\<profile name>. If you are wanting to re-apply your key tou can do so through the in-game interface, Options/Multiplayer Options/Enter Key Code.

you only have to wait for the map to rotate, the master server still thinks your online, once the map changes it realises and boots you- not individual servers...

my isp decided to updated my router hardware and it disconnected me off the game, waited 20-25 mins for the map to change and was able to join again.

I replaced it with my old backup account, and still no joy.. uh oh...

No Eliminator... I fixed it though.

I reset my router as well. I backed up my account and that didn't work - so now I lost my gold dragunov

But oh well, it works now. So, just reset your router/modem and you should be good.
