lock up

Hello. I have the following system
AMD x2 4800
Asus A8E-m
Galaxy 8800gt
2 gigs ram Corsair

Everytime I boot up my computer to play cod4 the game will lock up anywhere from the first menu to when the game is actually loading a map. When it locks up the sound goes in a loop and it requires a hard boot. I have updated EVERYTHING, fresh installs, etc.

I some how managed to find a way around this. After I reboot, I load COD4 in safemode when the option appears. After the game loads in SM, I exit and open the game again in standard mode. I then adjust all the setting and I can play with out any problems.

Any idea on what is causing this? I am stumped.

if the sound loops its usually the sound drivers, I had the same problem, go to http://support.asus.com/download/dow...Language=en-us and get the latest stuff for your motherboard
