    How reliable is KillCam?

Recently I noticed this situation happen quite often:
I encounter a enemy at close range, get 3-4 hit indications while firing my G3 but still get wasted.
But when I view the KillCam in appears like I didn't fire at all and was in fact not even looking at my killer

So either the KillCam or the Hit Indicators must be unreliable, does anybody know how it works? I assumed that the white crosshair meant that the server had registered the hit, but is it just clientside hit-prediction?

It's the KillCam. Notice how someone just shoots you while he's reloading his gun? That's because of lag and the KillCam.

The KillCam doesn't seem to show you fire at them. Happens to me a lot.

IW did comment on the fact that killcam should never be relied on.

thats one of the main reason i dont like the kill cam, plus it gives away snipers location.

Now that I've been playing for a while, I don't really like the Kill Cam. However, I think when you are just starting out, that it can be a valuable learning tool.

The KillCam does not record the data you are refering to. It only records map position of the individuals, the shooter and his weapon fire and the recipient of that weapon fire. It does not record the 'victims' shots, so they are not replayed in KillCam.

IMO, KillCam can be a valuable tool for TDM, Dom and HQ matches. It eliminates the frustration of not understanding how you died, decreases the cries of "hax" and allows one to learn from their mistakes.

It sux when you are a camper or defending a position in S&D/Sabotage or playing competitively against a team using tight voice comms. They'll rat you out to their buddies in a heartbeat--as they should!

So, while I really enjoy playing with KillCam on, I can understand why some don't like it. My philosophy is: "Fire, then move." That works well for me.

I use KillCam to make certain that I was killed fairly.
The number of unexplained deaths on CamFree servers creates paranoia.
Not that I mind if it prevents various campers from sitting in the same spot the whole game, but that is not my main concern.

But this was not meant to be for or against KillCam, I was just worried that the client had incredible bad hit prediction code.
I can live with KillCam being a bit inaccurate, but I don't want to think that I am shooting at an enemy while the server thinks I am admiring a wall

Sonic is right. KillCam is sort of a simulation, not all of the exact events that occurred. Player positions should be correct, however.

KillCam is the #1 tool against hackers, IMHO.

I've never noticed any problems with it?

It gets annoying but is great when you die and say no f***ing way he must be hacking. It can really show you where you were exposed.
