Well, I found nvidia and x-fi have problems with each other. However, I put the settings to hardware and still the evil static returned :dead:

I had no problems at all with two 7900GTX's and a X-Fi Fatality. Make sure you have the latest drivers for both the components and if your motherboard has a sound card built in try disabling it.
