Hackers have done it to me (They make their name the same as mine)... just bring up console and type:

/name yournewname

or hit escape and go to multiplayer options and change it

Since the play accounts are local, rather than online, you can have the same player name.
*This means you don't need to add numbers for your name, which is sorta nice.

The server admin has to set up PB to kick for duplicate names.

This has nothing to do with hacks whatsoever. I can change my name 8 times in under 2 seconds using keybinds (Doesn't mean I do it, just proving a point).
