Need 1.4 patch for digital download version!

I've contacted my vendor and they're being idiots about it, so I've decided to reach out to the community about my problem. Vendor (bestbuy.com/digital river) claim they can't help me with my issue and to contact activision for help, of course if I did that then activision would just tell me to contact my vendor. The funny thing is, I e-mailed them when the 1.3 patch came out and they gave me a link the next day. Now they can't help me. This is pissing me off so much, servers with 1.3 are few and far between and I get bad lag whenever I try to connect.

Anyway, I'm looking for a 1.4 patch like the one I got from www.10-78.com. They had a zip file with three files
    -iw3mp.exe
    -iw3sp.exe
    -version.inf

and you just pasted them over the existing files to patch your game. For whatever reason, they haven't released the 1.4 patch on their site.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, you guys have no idea how frustrating this has been for me...

File a complaint with the Better Business Buro in the state that Activision and Best Buy have their corporate HQ. Also contact the Division of Consumer Affairs for those respective states as well. Taking those steps might take a little time, but it might get what you want.

Tell them in the complaints that you want a refund for the game since Best Buy and Activision won't support you and provide you with the product you paid for. Best case, you'll get your money back and you can buy an actual version from the store.

This should be in the Support section so that people can recognize you need help.

At any rate, try a forum search...someone posted a re-vamped patch for e-versions of the game that might work for you.

Yes, this should be in the support section, I apologize. Anyway, I was already thinking of filing a complaint with the BBB, or at least threatening to do so in my next e-mail to them. I wasn't very happy with the tone of their last e-mail to me (granted, it was an e-mail), they flat out denied my request for a refund because the 15 day trial period had passed. It's just complete BS because I have an e-mail from the very same address with a link for the 1.3 patch that works for me. Now all of a sudden they can't/won't help me. Here's my e-mail to them:

Has digital river released the latest patch (1.4) for digitally
distributed versions of Call of Duty 4? It has been out for about a
week and we haven't received anything. It's very frustrating when you
have to contact your vendor to get a fix for a product you purchased
from them. Other vendors (STEAM) have had no problem releasing the
latest patch in a timely manner, regardless of this being the holiday
season. If you cannot commit yourselves to providing timely releases
for updates of products you sell, then please stop selling them. If you
are not fully committed to releasing these patches as soon as they're
released by Activision, perhaps it would be better if you refunded my
money and blocked my CD key. I'd be more than happy to purchase the
boxed version of this game from my local store.

And their response (5 days later):

Thank you for contacting the Online Store.

We apologize for the inconvenience, unfortunately, we are unable to
assist you with this issue at the Online Store. Please contact
_Activision_ for assistance with the product you have purchased.

Technical support may be contacted at:

If you want to request a refund on order number 133709697, please accept
our apologies; the Online Store provides a 15 days period for evaluation
of this consumer software. After 15 days, the refund period ends and is
strictly enforced. This is outlined in our refund policy located at:

        And my response to them:

I actually think you can help me. The first time I e-mailed the web help service, I was sent an e-mail about a day later with the link for the call of duty 4 1.3 patch. http://dr.bluehornet.com/ct/1540284:...DC9649E0B8BDE8 It had nothing to do with Activision, and I'm sure if I contacted them I would be told to contact my vendor, which would be digital river. I find it hard to believe that you could help me with the last patch, but you cannot with the latest one.

I'd go ahead and file complaints with the BBB and the Division of Consumer affairs in the home state of the corporate HQ for both companies. In the meantime, if the place you bought it from refunds your money or gives you the patch, fantastic. If not, you're already ahead of the game.

I downloaded that one and it didn't work for me. I filed the online complaint through BBB and today I got an e-mail from bestbuy.com saying they had posted a 50 dollar credit to my account. Lick ***, digital river!

No more digital versions of games for me, I've learned my lesson. I'm kind of SOL right now anyway because while I was in Istanbul last week, all the COD4 PC copies at my store sold out. But since I'm deploying to Iraq in a week, I will have no need for the game right now. Thank you to everybody for your advice/suggestions, much appreciated! I swear the community of game players is infinitely more helpful than any customer service team.

AFAIK, Steam has not had prolonged downtime since Half Life 2 was released, and everybody and their mother was trying to activate. Valve since learned their lesson and has extreme redundancy in the Steam system.

Gabe Newell has also stated that if for any reason Steam were to be permanently discontinued, all games associated with an account on Steam would be unlocked, so they still work outside the system.

Thank you! But I have to point out that I'm Air Force and I will (barring the sh** hitting the fan) stay on base for my entire deployment. I must say I will miss the Total COD4 community while I'm gone, but when I get there I'll see if this site isn't blocked by the government firewall so I can log on and say hello to everybody...
