Well I ordered Orange Box while it was on Special and I couldn't download it yet cause I wasn't on my computer when I ordered it but it came up with needing 16 gigs available of space but when I got home

HL2 : 3.5 gig
HL2Ep1: 2.1gig
HL2Ep2: 5.1gig
HL2LC: 318mb
PeggleEx: 20mb
TF2: 7.45gig
Portal:1.6gig

now that is over 16gigs and that is a lot now I am new to Steam but are they the acutal file sizes or are they the recommended HDD Space needed and the files are smaller?

i think all of those share a lot of common stuff like the whole source engine

my TF2 stuff takes about 2.45gb
but everything together minus episode 2 is approx 10 gigs for me

The steam engine is a hog, the rest is just textures and each game's separate engine.

Took over 18GB on my system.

If you're worried about the download time, i wouldn't. Since you're paying for the games Steam tries to get them downloaded as fast as possible.

well just downloaded HL2 and it bumped the rest of my downloads up to 35% done from 0% so thats awesome
