X-fi Option Incompatibility despite having X-fi set to "game" option?

I installed 2142 after a long time on hiatus, followed by the 1.40 patch, NS and then 1.40 again. I deleted cache, defragged and installed, updated and fixed PB. So far everything works fine, however when I select the X-fi option in the 2142 options it states my soundcard is incompatible.

I can check "hardware" and "ultra high" but i'm not convinced it's the same as having "x-fi" checked with "ultra high."

Is there any reason why I can't check the "x-fi" option without getting an incompatibility popup? I have 2142 set to "game" mode beforehand using x-fi mode changer and I minimise out of 2142 and it shows i'm still in "game" mode.

I reinstalled the latest creative drivers twice now and it's still the same deal.

what is exact model of your soundcard? if it is X-Fi xtreme music, then forget it, it's not a true hardware X-Fi card. maybe re-do the Open-Al wrapper? you used to play it with the X-Fi mode, correct? well i can't tell that much difference from hardware mode and X-Fi mode so don't feel too bad if you have to play it on hardware mode. it crashes less for me at least. i have the xtreme gamer X-Fi.

The XtremeMusic is a real X-Fi card. The problematic one is XtremeAudio.

AFAIK to use X-Fi settings, you need to be in Game mode before you start the game.

It seems to be a card problem, had the card for over a year without hiccup though. It wants me to restart evertime i change to Game mode. After restart, it's back to Entertainment mode and i'm stuck in the same loop trying to get Game mode to function.

Turned out to be dodgy seating of the card. Resat the bugger and all is well again. Cheers for the responses guys, much appreciated. Tis always nice to know you ain't alone on such trivial matters. :)
