Illegal or not, they have been here for ages and will continue to do so so it doesn`t really matter. I will prolly keep on playing on em too.

I did. And yes.

They are definitely breaching some rules. For example, when SWAT4 servers disabled their CD checks back when the developer cared, more often than not, the servers got delisted by Gamespy.

That's a PBSS (specifically of a player with a wallhack). Oddly enough, if you check the punksbusted.com MBL, you'll notice that a good number of the first bans were PBSS bans, although that's not overly surprising since PB is a reactive solution to cheating and requires time to find the cheats to add.

Thats a little harsh. Consider this, me and my friend both run legal SWAT4 copies, and we play together. However, a crude estimation of mine says that about 75% of all SWAT4 servers are "cracked". The figure is so high because there are pretty much just few servers that dont have their servers CD key check disabled.

When you download a retail game without paying for it, you're breaking the law. If you hack the files from a legal copy, you are breaking the law because the EULA is a contract.

Out of the 11000 - 12000 COD 4 servers, game-monitor finds about 200 with the word "cracked" in it. If these are all the cracked servers, it's a very very small percentage of the total servers available, so anyone with a legal copy has no need to play on an illegally set up server.

I guess as a moral person, I just don't see the point in illegally downloading and hacking retail games.

i think you will find cracked servers cannot be tracked through game monitor and other types of tracker.

Having cracked in the server name could mean anything, i play on cracked skull and cracked bones servers sometime and they are NOT cracked servers.

There are currently 216 COD 4 servers showing up with the word "cracked" in their name, put in such a way to indicate that the server is cracked, so game-monitor.com apparently CAN show them.

You know, when people download a "cracked" game. Means more than just them hacking...

2.) Want to try MP , without buying 1st?
3.) Maybe they just want to try it, demo wasn't enough.

In all seriousness, I dont blame people for at least giving the game a try before they buy it, COD4 and ETQW are unfortunately simply odd exceptions to the common rule of releasing half botched up multiplayer games.

Most of the servers that are cracked, don`t have the word "cracked" in em. You just have to know which one to join. A list for ASE will help a lot.

Also i've never downloaded a game illegal, because i just don't know how and i'm not taking the time to do that. If i like to have a new game i just go to the city and buy it there, just give the developers credits for what they have done.

But really the number of hacker is growing rapidly in this game. While i've encountered just a few hacker on BF2 and sorts, i've already met a lot of hackers on CoD4.
Aimbots seem very popular, but the wallhacker numbers are rising too. This game is really wallhacker heaven due to you can shoot through walls :p

Yea, they are.. But.. Look at www.pbbans.com, the list grows everyday. So thats good.

I play on them, due to friends who can't buy the game, and also because I noticed the same thing you did, I do seem to find good and mature people. I was on once, acutally used VOIP. First server EVAR to have teamwork on VOIP, was on a "CRACKED" server.
