    Multiplayer Issue

I am going to try and be as descriptive about this as possible

basically i cannot access the multiplayer section of BF 2

I have updated my video/audio/mobo drivers

i have installed the 1.41 patch

    i have updated punkbuster (manually)

    i am running a 2.0 gig processor
    512 MB/s RAM
128 MB video card (Radeon 9800PRO)

i am meeting the minimum requirements for BF2

i did not illegally download the game, i have purchased it, i have a legit CD key. the game works in single player, but everytime i try to click the JOIN GAME button in ANY multiplayer server the game crashes and goes back to windows. i do not get an ERROR message of any kind. it just goes straight back to windows.

if ANYONE could possibly give me any suggestions i will gladly listen. i have not yet tried uninstalling-resinstalling. but besides that im not sure what it could be.

any help at all would be appreciated. thank you.

Try removing/renaming the Battlefield 2\Profiles folder in My Documents, if that don't work try removing the whole folder, not really played this game for some time, but when I got this kind of problem this seemed to work.

        Do you have vista?

and in case you can't open it,

*note2* VISTA USERS: If you have recently upgraded to Vista, for some reason certain maps can lag\delay so badly that it cannot be played. It is not the the server, the problem is with the operating system. The solution is to run BF2 and PR in Windows XP SP2 Compatibility Mode and as Administrator.

*note3* VISTA USERS: Microsoft have recently released a standalone hotfix that seems to fix crashes for games, and PR. As this is not included in Microsoft's usual patch release yet, the info is below to be manually added by the user until it's incorporated automatically in Vista. You can read about it on Microsft's KnowledgeBase Article

the single player version of the game ran, so it doesn't make sense that b/c i dont have enough ram that the multiplayer version wouldn't work, not to mention that the minimum requirements state that i need 512 mb/s of ram to play the game

also, my friend is running it off of 512 mb/s of ram. i understand that more ram makes the game run smoother, but if ram is not the issue that is preventing me from playing the game, then there is no point in getting more.

my issue has been taken care of, like i suspected it was a Punkbuster issue

when i had installed the quake wars demo a while back i had to install punkbuster seperately as a 3rd party installer.

this program was still installed and was conflicting with the punkbuster that is built into BF2

after uninstalling punkbuster and disabling the services, i then uninstalled BF2.

i reinstalled BF2 and the 1.41 patch ONLY. i did not reinstall punkbuster. it works. i am able to access the multiplayer servers. (punkbuster enabled and non enabled servers both work).

i hope that my issue can be helpful to others who have the same issue, and thanks to everyone for the suggestions.
