    fps

    hello,
first let me say i love that game.
then, its been a month now im messing around with settings to get the better config to play it.
i've found some cvars settings that helped the fps a lot, played with those for one day, then PB kicked me for those. so i set them back to normal.
but, here is my problem details:

    AMD 6000+ dual core 3GHz
    Geil DDR2-2G -800MHz
    ENERMAX 750W
    XFX 7600GT xxx

im getting a fluctuate fps 30-360 at 600x400
    and 20-260 at 800x600

is there a way to fix this, i really cant play good when the fps goes down under 40, so what i'd like is to have at least 50 all the time.
    im sick of this.

the cvars i changed before were just simple things that simplify the polygons or textures, it wasnt cheats (dont give me any advantages except a better fps), so pb is too rude i think.
    its really a shame

so, any advices except 'go buy a 8800' ?
    thanx

It looks like your video card is your bottle neck. I would definitely think about upgrading it. You don't have to get an 8800 if you don't want to, I agree it is way over priced. I'm using a Radeon 2400HD Pro that I bought at Circuit City for $130. It seems to run fine. The only reason I opted for that one instead of the 8600GT which was the same price, was the HDMI port on the card. I really wanted that feature and couldn't get it with the 8600. I sacrificed a little quality for the HDMI capabilities.

I think COD4 is an 8800 game IMO. I had a 7900 GS and it played COD4 horribly even on low GFX! maybe I'm wrong?

My x1950 runs this game just fine(IMO)...

With all high settings i get around 50-60 fps all the time and in some cases it may drop to 30-40...

Actually FPS wise this game runs better for me than bf2142...

But still you get better performance with 8800 series card...

oh well i finaly fixed all my problems
i just cleaned the dust, and installed the latest stable drivers,
and i play it now at middle settings 1024/768 with com_maxfps and maxpackets at 70 and so i get 70 fps easily on every maps and without going under 65.
i tested 1280/1024 and can get constant 70 fps too but in some areas of certain maps it goes near the 40-50
so its all good now, it runs better than ever :)

the only reason for me to upgrade to a 8800 is to play it at my native monitor resolution 1600/... but honestly i dont find it necessary and i wont pay 300 just for that, so no, cod4 is not a 8800 game

Not to flame, but you may think you have everything maxed out, but I'm thinking you're either missing some settings, or playing on a very low resolution: http://www.tomshardware.com/2007/11/...00/page17.html

the maxpacket cvar really can change ur fps a lot :)
anyway i changed it back to a lower setting, it depend the server, but sometime u got weird little lag if u put it too high.
