I think COD4 ranking system is awesome. Its achievements come through "hard work" and once you really start focusing on them, all they give you, is "more points", which you dont really need. And the ranks themselves lose their meaning. You get all best weapons by the 40th rank, which is in about 10 hours of play time.
Ive played S&D almost exclusively, and I achieved the 55th rank in 1D3Hours (is 1D 12 or 24 hours? I couldnt have played 27 hours?!)
By the time I reached 55 rank, I was able to consistently pass 1:1 KDR, and Im completely new to COD franchise. So the ranking is kind of like the "fun and training" part, where you get to unlock new "sh!t". By the time that part of the game ends, you know most maps fairly well, and have adjusted to the dynamics. No pro yet, and the skill is still on the lower levels.
Beats the persistent stat tracking with "ribbons" and "icons" by a long, long mile.
Im amazed. How the hell could IW pull off so much good stuff in just one game?
