    How's UT3 doing?

I decided to make this topic here, rather than in the UT3 section because this is more of a "Which game should I get" topic.

I'm either getting UT3 or COD4 for xmas, but I'm not sure which one to get. I played the demo for both, and like both. I especially liked UT3 because it was something I've never played before. I like shooters in general, so I know I'd like COD4 multiplayer.

I've read that practically no one is playing UT3 and out of the 50 or so servers, only a few of them have people on them...

So which one should I get? I like both games equally, pretty much, but I need to base this off of how UT3 is doing right now, and how it will do within the next year or so.

    I don't want to waste $50

I'd go with Call of Duty 4. Has more players and the multiplayer will keep you coming back for more than the multiplayer in UT3 I believe. I'm willing to bet every person will tell you COD4 as well. :p

They are two very different shooters catering to different people. COD4 will pretty much play out like its SP on the hardest difficulty, and depending on the gamemode, even slower. UT3 is your standard UT with a facelift, and youll either love it, or hate it. I find certain gamemodes to be the gaming worlds best.

As for the player numbers, game monitor shows 300 people online, and right now is not really the "peak time". Youll find many populated servers, so dont sweat.

Judge by your experience, if you liked UT3, get it, you wont be disappointed. COD4 multiplayer is awesome too. Personally, I like the "down to earth" shooters, and at the moment, Im enjoying COD4 MP very, very much. Hated the Single Player though... talk about garbage.

Be warned though, the serverbrowser and general UI is complete crap (consolish: too litte **** spread out on too many pages), but hopefully they will redo it.

UT3 is a great game, but then again every UT game is, it isn't as good as its predecessors though

Leadcannon is right in that the UI and serverbrowser are dire, too much console influence and if you are getting it on PC then make sure you disable mouse acceleration. UT games have always been brilliant because of the great weapons and maps, the maps are slightly lacking in this version imo but the gamemodes are immense and you can be 100% certain that the UT3 mod community will be the best out there

Go with COD4. I can't believe I bought UT3. The only thing I like in the game is the hoverboard. Other than that it sucks.

              $10 of mine wasted...

Can the COD4 multiplayer be compared to FEAR combat's gameplay? Fast paced, non-stop action, die-respawn-die-respawn kind of thing?

Or is it more like America's Army?

Also, I know UT3 server browser isn't good at all, but that doesn't bother me too much since I won't be playing with friends or anything. I just don't want to get UT3 and then log on it and see there's no one playing!

                    only 30k copies sold :shakehead

"Crysis selling 86,633 copies since November 13 and Unreal Tournament doing a pathetic 33,995 - despite the hype around its much-delayed release."

"UT, for all its smooth splendour, has the exact same gameplay that the previous versions have had for the past half-decade, which is hardly an incentive for standard gamers to get into."

whereas i bet COD4 has sold more than half a million

Depends. The slower "one life" gamemodes like "Objective" are pretty slow, but they have map routes so ironed in, that it leaves little for improvisation.

TDM and DM gamemodes are pure fragfests.

Id say its pretty damn fast paced, little realism.
