    More ram make a difference?

    I have an

    AthlonXP 2600+ @ 2.16Ghz
    160GB 7200RPM HDD
    nVidia GEForce 6600GT AGP

I have 2x512mb PC3200 ram and just bought another 1x1GB stick so I now have 2 GB of pc3200 DDR and it hasnt made a positive at all. Does more ram not make the system and everything work faster or would say 1.5GB or the old 1GB do the same job while playing 2142 or any other game?

I have the latest NGO drivers and a fresh install of XP with hardly anything installed on it but games

BTW I know my system is dated, im not looking for high settings or anything, just curious about the ram. It kind of even seems worse now?

You would need to have the exact same amount of RAM.
    Example:
    (2GB)2x BRAND XXXXX 1GB DDR2 PCXXXX
    (4GB)2x BRAND XXXXX 2GB DDR2 PCXXXX

To get the performance boost for DDR2 RAM as mixing and matching will not enable the performance boost.

its actually DDR not DDR2 but im sure that doesnt make a difference. I think I am gonna take out one of the 512mb then and put it in another system that needs it more.

You should see faster map loading, but I think that the CPU will still be the bottleneck so you wont see much other performance increase.
Did you remember to adjust your swap file size?

You chanced it to 2x your physical ram right? 2GB of RAM = 4GB for your Page File.
