I've discovered that if you ever want to play in a fantastically lopsided battle, simply join any UK-based clan server. You don't even have to join the game, just hit TAB once you are attached to the server. For some reason, the Brits seem to enjoy battles where it is 16 against 5. Autobalance is off, SmartBalance is being used to ensure no clan member ever switches sides, meaning the server will only allow you to join the team which is currently being slaughtered. If you then hit CAPS LOCK to check out the players, you will see that it is Privates and Sargeants against a boatload of Brigs.
What is the fun in that? Where is the challenge? These clans are usually adamant that "stat-padders will be banned" yet is there any better example of stat-padding than a dozen brigs against half a dozen noobs? After noticing this a few clans in a row, I started to notice that all of those servers were hosted by UK-based clans. And if you ever Say All during the game, "How about we balance the teams a little more?" you get slagged /banned /kicked or sworn at (mostly just made fun of, with brilliant comments such as "we can't help it if you suck", "haha whiner", etc.. So what's up with that? Why the rather huge chip on their collective shoulders?
A few tips for noobs (like me) :
- When you join a game and every silo is the same colour, don't spawn. It won't count against your win/loss. Find another server.
- If you hit TAB and see every player on the other team has a clan signature, and most of them are Brigs, don't bother joining, it will be a slaughter.
- Be wary of any server where Autobalance is off. It means that they are probably using smartbalance, and forcing the teams to be unbalanced so that they never lose. It is, of course, possible that they are using smartbalance to make the server even more balanced, but a quick check of the other team before you join will tell you that in a jiffy.
