yeah bf2 has extremely long loading times. It's not too bad with 3gb of ram, but it always stops at 62% for a few seconds. the load times are longer than any of my other games (crysis, bioshock, world in conflict, UT3)

Yeah, mine hangs around at 62% for a while, do you run it on high res and high graphics?

Yes, but if I run it on low graphics, it doesn't stop at 62% at all.

It's weird, though, because most of the time it'll stop at 62%, but on some occasions, it just skips it. I'm still one of the very first people on the server even when it stops at 62%. I think the people who are in first (usually) have computers like mine or better, but play on all low settings.

Thank you. Thank you so much. I'm glad someone had the guts to say that. PR people - go and have fun in the PR section of the forums.

And speaking of the long loading times: well BF2 has probably the biggest maps with the most detail than many other games, and the maps have to be fully loaded from the beginning, as a little "LOADING..." message in a jet for example would be rather irritating.

I have no problems at all... I think that usually means it's time for an update or a new computer XD

Is bf2 the only game you play? Because even if you have 4gb of ram, quad core processor, 8800 and a 10k rpm drive, BF2's load times will still be much longer than "next-gen" games (crysis, bioshock, UT3, etc)

That's because the "Verifying Client Data" in PR is almost non-existent. The actual maps take around the same amount of time to load...

thats what they used to say, loads in like 20 seconds for me, and i only have 2 GB of ram if that matters + all high settings.

when the game came out it was long because 6800Gt was best thing you could get and everyone had **** rigs.

the amount of RAM you have strongly affects this. i used to play with 1GB, then i upgraded to 3GB and it makes a huge difference. where i used to be in the last half of people to join during a map swap, im always in the first few.
and as for it stopping at 62%, i only ever get this when my system settings have been changed. so if the server swaps from a night to day map or when i have updated my graphics card driver.

4GB of Ram and fine loading times here. Was great on 2 in xp as well. Mot of the time I was the or one of the first in, and that with almost all high graphics.

the hard drive speed/cache is the biggest improvement to loading times, especially verifying. ram helps with the starting lag, intermittent lag here and there. i usually go from 7-16-89-100% in about 3 to 5 seconds, then verify a max of 5 seconds for a total of a max 10 seconds. and my PC isn't quite top of the line. if its the first map i load after starting up bf2 add maybe 3-4 seconds onto that. seriously if your still taking 2 minutes or more to load a 2.5 year old game its time to get a new PC.

I have a sh!t PC -- AMD 64 3000+ , X800 GTO, 1GB value RAM -- It always takes a while to load and then then 2 minute wait for "Verifying Client Data". But i recently downloaded Diskeeper Lite Defrag Utility and after running this several times I found that my "Client Data" wait times reduced considerably .... only waiting 10-15 secs now.
Give it a try cos Windows Defrag Utility is a POS.

i run diskeeper 10 pro premier every day while I am at work, it runs for about 2 hours cleaning the $hit outta my pc, that definately helps with the verify stage while it searches over your hardrive. also my pc is squeaky clean because of it.
