gamepad on XP ?

I've searched for this but no luck.......is it possible to use other controllers on COD4? I don't have single player (asking for "proper DVD-ROM".... huh?). Anyway I'd like to throw a gamepad on it but don't see how to. :shakehead

Plug in the gamepad and try to change the controls with it might work.
