  • Question about demos

I'm making my third and final BF2142 move "a team move for my clan Apotheosis". I need to watch demos recorded under the earlier patch. Any one have any suggestions? Do I have to install a second copy? How do I do that if I have to?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

No one has any ideas? I tried installing the older patch, but it won't let me roll back. I tried just using the exe from the earlier patch (had a buddy who hadn't patched yet) and that didn't work either. My team mates are countin on me, so I'll do a completely separate windows install if I have to, but there's got to be a better way...

The only way i can think of is reinstalling your game and applying patch 1.25.

        Zarious,

you will have to uninstall completely, I went through this before all servers had the 1.4 update and 1.25 was required for matches, uninstall and reinstall upto 1.25, then copy the entire bf2142 folder to a new folder, then patch the 1.25 to 1.4 and you will be able to run both versions, just create another shortcut from that copied folder to run 1.25. Seen couple of you guys on WW3 server other night, drop by some more when u get a chance. Let me know if you need any additional help, you can xfire me if needed same name kyle600

Or you could just rename the existing BF2142 1.40 folder, install and patch to 1.25.
I see no need to uninstall?

If you want to tidy up you can rename the 1.25 folder afterwards, and give 1.40 it "real" name back.

Also remember that the new shortcut still needs all the options, so maybe it is easier to copy the old shortcut and adjust the parameters (primarily the directory names)

ETA: Decription of the process including the shortcuts here

Veki you are probably right, as usual I probably took the long way around by uninstalling, at the time tho I figured a complete uninstall was in order as I seem to have to do it every now and then for the 60 percent freeze and deleting the radial.cdb doesn't work, just posted what worked for me.

Ok so I renamed my old directory, and backed up the 2142 folder in my "My Documents" folder, but it won't let me install. It detects that it is already installed, and simply "preforms maintenance" when I try to install it. Any ideas?

Got it, took some wrangling tho. I had to zap a coupla registry entries. Don't try this at home

If you delete the 2142 without doing a complete uninstall, you will have to erase all those registry entries if you want to re-install/patch the game. Its all really simple, but I cannot emphasize enough on BACKING YOUR REGISTRY UP. If you EVER are even PLANNING on editing your registry JUST A LITTLE BIT, BACK IT UP!

Sorry bout the Bold, but nobody can stress enough how important that is... Unless you just like wiping your computer and starting from scratch.

Does a reinstall remove all registry entries?
I usually re-image the disk when I need to reinstall, but that is not the way most people do it.

I just searched for references to BF2142 in the registry and deleted the one's that looked important (I exported them first just in case). I'm pretty sure their was only one registry entry that mattered, I just zapped the rest to be safe. I have the problem now, that I can't run my old version, but I think that's a firewall issue, since the name of the directory that the EXE runs out of has changed. Just didn't have the time last night to fix it.
