How do I set up VOIP ?

I just purchased a Logitech USB headset. I can hear commanders speaking quite clearly with it on (much better than the speakers), but thus far no one has heard my voice. It is probably a port issue since I have a router and have not opened up every single port I see listed in the manual. If I put them all in according to the manual, I would need 15 separate entries for this one game. Seems like a bit much to me since it amounts to about 3600 open ports!

I have seen the TeamSpeak notice on some servers where they list a port after their IP. I assume I have to open that port to make it work? But all of the servers I connect to seem to use different ports, and I more or less select servers to play on at random so I would need to adjust my router settings every time I play. What have other people done? Is there a common port range I can open which covers most servers?

Thus far, I have my USB headset configured as the output device. I have tested it with the EA testing software which installs with 2142 and it works. I have enough ports open to play the game, and I have VOIP enabled in the Audio properties. The last bit, I assume, is to open the correct ports..... ?

what kind of router are you using? I have a linksys router and have never opened a single port for any game including BF2142. You need to make sure that your microphone is enabled in Windows, which can be found in the sounds area under the control panel. Check there first, then look at the microphone settings in game under the audio section.

Are you talking about VOIP or TeamSpeak? If it is the in game VOIP you just hold down V to talk to your sqaudmates and if you are the SL you can hold down B to talk to the commander. Likewise, as commander holding down B lets you talk to your SL's.

If it is TeamSpeak you have to install the TeamSpeak program on your computer and then connect to whichever TeamSpeak server they are on.

I have a logitech usb headset as well and it works fine. I haven't had to open any ports at all. When you first plug it in, it should install the drivers and then it shows up on your sound input/output list. All I did is open up sound properties and made sure it was selected for playback and recording.

hm hopefully i don't sound silly, but i got a mic since sergeant silver and only realised i needed to press "v" to talk when i was brig gen =S
