    1. Combat Tips

    a. CQC- There are several useful tactics to use in close quarter combat (CQC).

Sprint at someone and then jump over or to the side of them. This is useful for surprising a camper, or suddenly attacking someone who was running away from you and then turned to camp. Also useful for clearing corners and entering buildings with enemies- it is a great way to suddenly ambush your foes.

Use the sprint key to strafe back and forth, or just one way. This actually works, and by going back and forth you are extremely hard to hit.

Sprint, jump, and then go prone to quickly get the edge on an opponent. Quickly hit space to get out of prone and remember that you can be shooting the ENTIRE time as you do a dolphin dive.

Crouch and start shooting- as they return fire, quickly switch to prone and finish them.

Bunny hop, repeatedly jump around an enemy while shooting at them- great in enclosed spaces.

Sprint forward, jump, and crouch. It makes you a hard target, allows you to shoot, and even allows you increased mobility as you can quickly move out of crouch.

    b. Camping- I recommend camping around corners, near flags, bombsites, HeadQuarters, and chokepoints. Basically, you want to get to an area where you can oversee a spot where many enemies will pass by. Crouching is best for ambushing someone. It makes you harder to see, more accurate, and you still can be mobile and moving around in a few quick moments. The SMGs are great for camping seeing as they have a fast ROF and reasonably high damage. They are also quick to reload so you can prepare for more enemies. Always reload after killing somebody, and never zoom. Zooming makes it easy for them to run past the area you are covering with your zoom and own you. Only zoom if you are firing at someone outside of the area you are camping (ex. if you see someone outside of the doorway you are crouched next to, who is not coming towards the doorway).

    c. Ranged Combat- I recommend crouching, zooming, and strafing back and forth while firing. While prone you can not zoom and strafe at the same time, so you will be a moving target firing against a stationary target. In general red dot sights are better than ACOG scopes for the simple reason that an ACOG scope “breathes” up and down when zoomed, and there is (currently) and issue with the ACOG scope’s hitboxes. There is a lot of visual depth in CoD4 so moving around a lot at long ranges makes you hard to kill (except for a lucky shot).

    d. Random
-Cook your grenades by holding them in your hand for an extra second or two, it gives you enemies less time to run.

-Crouch before getting onto a mounted LMG, when you get off of it, you will go back to crouch.

-You are shown as a red dot on the enemies’ minimap if you fire without a silencer; silencers are a great add-on to any weapon.

-Completing challenges for weapons will give you special add-ons for them (like red dot sights, ACOG scopes, silencer, grips, and more).

-Headshots do an additional amount of damage, but the hit box for them is rather small. Get them if you can, but this is not a CS:S headshot crazy game.

-Crouching and walking makes your footsteps soundless.

-Conserve your sprint! There is no sprint bar, so always be aware of preserving your sprinting- instead of running around like a chicken with its head cut off.

-Use cover, this is a tactically rich game- so use your environment to your advantage.

-Spray and pray is valid since the game requires so few shots to kill.

-Make your custom classes diverse, so you have the perfect class for every scenario.

-Flash and stun grenades in this game have effects that last many seconds. They can seriously help storming a HeadQuarters, or anything where you have an enemy ready to camp you.

-The perfect way to anti-camp is to sprint and jump through doors and the such.

    2. Tweaking and Console Tips

    a. Demos- CoD4 has a great feature, the ability to record in game demos using console commands on Multiplayer servers where you are a mere client. Simply enable your console in, and hit the tilde ` key to bring it up. Then type in \record “demo name here" without the quotes. When you are done recording type in \stoprecord into the console. Your demo is auto-saved in the wrong area (Call of Duty 4- Modern Warfare/cod4/main/demos) so copy them and place them Call of Duty 4- Modern Warfare\cod4\mods\modwarfare\demos (you have to create the \demos folder). Bring up the ModWarfare version of CoD4, you can find it under mods in the main option screen of CoD4. When you are in ModWarfare- open the console at the main options screen after you select your profile, and type in \demo "demo name here" without the quotes. The demo will play and you can record over it with Fraps, this is the way to go if using Fraps in game gives you too much lag.

    b. Console Tips

    1. Unlock max FPS with "/com_maxfps 0". Simply enter that code and there will be no cap on FPS, you can set 0 to any value that you want.
    2. /sensitivity "", increase it to your preference. I run mine at about 1.6
    3. /rate "". Input a number here, somewhere around 25,000.
    4. /cl_maxpackets 100. Default is 30, I put it at 100 and it helps with headshots.
    5. /cg_brass 0. Turns off shells flying out of your gun.
    6. /r_dof_enable 0. Turns off a deep field of view, which puts a huge load on lower-mid range machines.
    7. /r_gamma "". Default is 0.8, I would recommend something like 1.1, gives you a huge visual advantage (brightness of screen).
    8. /r_zfeather 0. Kills some of the unnecessary lag cause by smoke grenades, and explosions.
    9. /sm_enable 0. Disallows shadows, large performance boost- but less pretty visuals.
    10. You can type in the console without an \ and it will be transmitted as all chat- so make sure you type \ before any command.
    11. You can connect to a buddy's server by using \connect "IP:Port".

NOTE: There are plenty more that you can use, but those are the ones I find that help the most. I assume no responsibility for any damage to your game, computer, or performance that may result as a consequence of using these tweaks.

    3. Class System

    a. Weapons- The game assigned values that affect, range, damage, ROF, mobility... etc

    Value 1= Name
    Value 2= Magazine Size
    Value 3= Damage
    Value 4= ROF
    Value 5= Range

    Sub Machine Guns

    MP5-30 (40-30) 800RPM (750-1000)
    Skorpion-20 (50-20) 850RPM (200-400)
    AK74u-30 (40-20) 800RPM (750-1000)
    Uzi-32 (30-20) 950RPM (750-1000)
    P90-50 (30-20) 925RPM (750-1000)

    b. Perks- A breakdown of all of the games perks.

    Slot 1

C4 x 2 - Two C4 charges you can plant and detonate with a radio.

RPG-7 x 2 - Cool perk for bringing down choppers, but that's about it.

Special Grenades x 3 - Gives you 3 stun or flash nades, good perk for rambo.

Claymore x 2 - Explosive mines that detonate when their motion field is triggered.

Bomb Squad - Shows all claymores and C4, not that useful.

Bandolier - Extra ammo, gives you max ammo for your weapons.

Frag x3- Three frag nades, a great perk.

    Slot 2

    Juggernaut - Increased health.

Stopping Power - Increased bullet damage.

Sonic Boom - Deal more damage with explosives.

Sleight of Hand - Faster reloading.

UAV Jammer - Invisible from UAVs.

Double Tap – Doubles the ROF of your gun.

    Overkill – Carry two guns.

    Slot 3

Extreme Conditioning - Longer sprint distance, not any faster.

Steady Aim - More crosshair accuracy, for hip-shooters.

Deep Impact - Bullets shoot through walls and deal a bit more damage.

Last Stand - Whip out a pistol when you die, gives you a chance to kill an enemy

Martyrdom - Drop a grenade as your last act before dying, awesome for CQC maps.

Dead Silence – Less noise while moving.

Eavesdrop – Listen to enemy voice chat.

Iron Lungs – Longer time with a steady scope as a sniper.

    c. Advice & Opinions- As far as the primary weapons go I would have to recommend the MP5 above the rest, it is a two shot kill almost anywhere and has great ROF and reload time. The P90 is also a great gun, and the AK74u is a fine choice if you want a gun that feels a bit more like an assault rifle. However the Skorpion vs. Mini Uzi is a clear win for the Skorpion, seeing as it is almost exactly like a Min Uzi on steroids.

The perks are all pretty good, in Slot 1 Claymores, Frag x3, and Bandolier will probably help you the most. Slot 2/ Slot 3 should have matching benefits: ex. Stopping Power and Deep Impact or UAV Jammer and Dead Silence. Just try to create some super-class advantages with skillful manipulation of the perks and weapons.

Great combos are ones that allow you to dominate an area of the game: a rambo class, or a stealth class... etc, the right combo or perks and weapons can make all the difference.

    4. Last Words- I hope you enjoyed this guide to SMG class type for CoD4 Modern Warfare. I am hoping to continue to update this guide and produce future guides based on Call of Duty 4. Continue to play CoD4, get better, and try to help others out by writing a guide or FAQ of your own. Look over those values carefully...some of them appear to be very suspect.
            Skorpion most accurate?
            Incredibly low P90 damage?

Either they're very inaccurate values, or that list has some typos in it.

                very good thanks

though it might just be me but i trend to find that i drop enemies quicker with the AK-74 then the MP5

havn't got the P90 myself yet though

Try opening the iw_11.iwd file, it shows all the weapon's damages. Each player has 100 health, 50 in hardcore more.

                  Skorp does 50 max
                  MP5 and AK-74u, 40 max
                  Uzi and P90, 30 max

                  All do 20 min.

Perhaps I'm interpreting the info wrong, but it seems pretty clear. P90 isn't that weak. But, I don't know where accuracy is. The game shows the Skorp as most accurate, but those aren't true values.

To clear up confusion- it is the game assigned ratings. When you create a class it gives you the bars for your class, this is using a form of that to rate it. I do agree that the Skorpion accuracy looks a bit suspect as wel, the rest of the values are right.

I'll check over the next couple of hours and give you some more info on the guns.

                    Cheers

One thing worth changing, you say the Skorpion is superior to the Mini-Uzi in everyway, yet the Muzi has higher RoF, longer range, and more ammo capacity. The Skorpion only has more close range damage, and supposedly better accuracy (which makes no sense, it has so little range, and the shortest barrel length, but that's IW's reasoning there). It doesn't seem so much better...

I think the Uzi is the best CQC SMG.

Personal experience, I've had much better luck with the Skorpion in CQB.

If I had to rate all the SMG's I'd go:

                            1- P90
                            2- MP5
                            3- Skorpion
                            4- Mini Uzi
                            5- AK-74u
