Issues with Movement using keyboard after installing updates and online account

When I first installed Battlefield 2 I had no problems whatsoever in playing the game. No lagging. Keyboard and Mouse responded flawlessly, etc.

After playing for awhile, I decided to try online play, so I had to install the 1.41 patch.

Then I installed whatever the software asked me to install so I could create an online account to play online. I didn't notice any problems with the online play (other than my being a newbie and getting my butt kicked!) but when I returned to single player, all of a sudden, I am having issues with movement. I hold down one of the movement keys and I will start moving in that direction, then stop for no reason. At times it takes a few seconds for me to have any movement control at all with the keyboard. Mouse movement works fine. It happens in vehicles and on foot. This is puzzling.

I've only played for a couple days (no not 48 hours straight! ;->) so I don't think it is the keys being worn out. I have tested the keyboard with other games and programs and this problem does not occur at all.

I have tried "reseting to default" the keys with no luck. Would uninstalling and reinstalling the program solve the problem?! Any other possible ideas on how to fix the problem? I've searched the forum and could find nothing of this kind of problem. The closest I found was movement not stopping, which is not the case here. As I have said, no issues with the mouse, it continues to respond to input even when the keyboard is not responding.

    Thanks for any help!!!

Try lowering your settings, probably system lag. What are your system specs? SP loads your system more than MP.

I always forget to include my specs...sorry....

MOBO: GIGABYTE GA-M57SLI-S4 AM2 NVIDIA nForce 570 SLI MCP ATX AMD Motherboard

      Processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200+ Windsor 2.6GHz 2 x 1MB L2 Cache Socket AM2 Processor

      Memory: CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory

Video: Leadtek WinFast PX8800 GTS TDH GeForce 8800GTS 640MB 320-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card (DVI Output used)

Monitor: SCEPTRE X20G-Naga III Black 20.1" 8ms DVI Widescreen HD Ready LCD

Hard Drive: 1 - Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD2500KS 250GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive (Plus 1 - Raid-5 930 Gig Drive comprised of 5 WD Caviar SE16's, but the software is installed on the stand alone drive)

Keyboard/Mouse: Microsoft Wireless Optical Desktop 1000 BV3-00003 Black USB RF Wireless Standard Keyboard Mouse

I will look into changing the settings. What puzzles me is there was no problem before the updates. Does the patch (1.41) do something to software that taxes on the hardware more?

It also always amazes me how quickly hardware becomes outdated! I know it shouldn't. This machine 6 months ago though not top of the line, i thought was breaching the top end of ability. Now it's barely in the mid range!! Ah well.

Thanks for the help and for any additional feedback you might have.

      Ken L.

I just set settings below where they were. They were all set to medium (800 x 600). I have poor eyesight and need the larger resolution to be able to see things easier, like text. I set most to low, and it still have the problem. Sometimes I can start to move then I stop and when i hit a movement key again, sometimes it resumes moving, sometimes it doesn't. I would note, the game performs without any lag. Vehicles move, troops fire weapons, I can't move and get killed. This game is unplayable like this. Maybe I just should uninstall and reinstall without the patch and hope the Windows XP system registry will delete previous entries and the game can return to "normal". What at P-I-T-A!!!! Any other thoughts or suggestions?!

Has anyone else expereince this specific problem?!

      Thanks again!

Your specs are great, they're not the problem, my system is pretty similar actually. Recently punkbuster has been a b**ch with lag with a lot of people. Go to evenbalance.com and get the updater software from there and run some updates. Update your video drivers too, while you are at it.

This helped me a while back:
Try moving your page file to the drives that the OS/game is not using. IE, my system drive is C:, my page file drives are my D: and E: drives. That helps the system with balancing load between multiple hard drives, vaguely similar to raid.

try reinstalling your mouse/keyboard. they come with drivers right? i think i had this same problem a while ago exept with my steering wheel joystick, and i think just reconfiging/re-detecting (its plug and play) made it work again.

edit: i read some previous posts with hte same problem and some popular fixes were to reinstall BF2 and/or update your sound drivers (according to one guy)

I think i've discovered the problem, but I don't know a solution (yet!). When I move the mouse input from the keyboard stops. This is happening with all programs, so this is a keyboard/mouse issue that I need to figure out how to fix. It's funny though becuase this wasn't a problem before until recently, and I don't recall changing any settings for the keyboard or mouse.

Sorry for taking up your time. I didn't realize how the mouse movement effected the keyboard input like it is until now.

Yes I am using a wireless keyboard and mouse. Up until recently, I did not have any issues.

i used to use wireless (until i spilled juice over it) and i had no problems. just make sure the channels are different between ur mouse and keyboard but try reinstalling the game. if u do a search about this problem, it seems like the majorityo of the fixes were to reinstall the game.

New batteries? Some wireless devices get pretty bad feedback from 700MHz wireless phones.
