What type of game do you want to play? UT3 has a lot of tight maps but also some open ones, vehicles, fast-paced, unrealistic, frag fest. COD4 has mostly tight maps, no vehicles, medium-paced, and realistic. Can't really comment on HL2.

UT3 or CoD4, these two are the best in the long run.

BF2 offers some really good mods ie POE2 and PR with some large maps and use of any vehicle.

HL2 is a good game. Also, offers some really good mods ie Synergy coop mod.

Orange box, if not only for TF2, you can't beat Source in number of mods.

CoD4 looks really good too, if you're into realism.

Orange Box. With Portal, HL2 and TF2 you will have covered Puzzles, Singleplayer and multiplayer.

And it doesn't have unreasonable demands to hardware.

I say HL2, statistics say CoD 4. Which I havent played.. So probably CoD 4...

Havent tried orange box, but i'm sure its worth it. I'd place that on second.

If it's solely between the three games you mentioned - I'd DEFINATELY, WITHOUT A DOUBT, choose Call of Duty 4. The campaign is excellent and fast-paced and the multiplayer is practically flawless.
