    I can not connect !

For some reason right after Steam updated (11/29) I can not connect to COD4. When i attempt to connect to it, It leaves me at the "preparing to Launch" window indefinitly. It then disconnects my internet. I can launch other games (WoW) but i can not launch anything from Steam. The update was not even for COD4. Anyone, help?

How do you mean, "It then disconnects my internet"?

Is it possible your local firewall or your router firewall is blocking Steam?

But i am not using a router. I mean as soon as i launch steam to play COD4 it disconnects my internet, And i then i can not even launch COD4. How would i check if my firewall was blocking it?

Normally you'll get a message from your Windows firewall (or a 3rd party product if you have one installed) indicating the process is being blocked. However, you may want to check your exceptions or allowed processes list just to make sure you didn't accidentally blacklist the game.

Your problem sounds a bit hinky. What sort of connection are you using? Is it dialup?

I am using DSL, steam is on exceptions. Exactly what happened was i got home, i got on and played, then i got offline. When i closed COD4 it said that i have a new update from steam, it was for some silly game that i don't have. So I ignored it and signed off. When i got back on tho, I opened COD4, and instead of even getting online, it just disconnects my internet and i sit here waiting at "preparing to launch COD4" and i even waited for 22 mins for it to load. then i closed it and i have been restarting my moden/ computer over and over and trying, same thing every time.

Yeesh, that sucks. I wonder if you can reinstall Steam without having to download and reinstall COD4? If so, you may want to try that...it sounds like Steam has its head up its arse.

If you do decide to reinstall the Steam client, be sure to backup your player profile data just in case.

Sorry I can't be much more help than that. Doesn't sound like any problem I've seen.

Well, good luck. Be sure to back up your COD player profile to another directory.
