    Unreal 3?!

Is it me, or does Unreal Tournament 3's storyline, in campaign mode, have absolutely nothing to do with a tournament in any way, shape, or form?

I know that the core of the game is similar, but why on earth have Epic decided to go with that whole 'squad of 4' cliched route? Rather than using the idea of a fabricated tournament.

Combined with that, the reasons they use for Capture the flag is absolutely absurd, and easily could've been avoided if they'd have made the storyline tournament based.

    Well, that's my two pence.

    Thoughts?

for me i have never cared for the single player portion of unreal. I played the original UT99 single player all the way through, the tourney style was ok. Played a little during UT2k3 and totally skipped the single player for UT2K4. Played some of the Ut3 single player and found it to be ok. For me UT3 is all about the online multiplayer. Nothing better than going against other people  The only time i would use instant action would be to check out a map layout before going online.

Same here, SP in UT is pretty much pointless. If you`re really, I mean really bored, then you could try it out and see what the story is like.

Now Unreal games have good stories. Well, only one has (the first one) and it is awesome. Unreal is the only game that has given me an epic feeling.
The second one was a lackluster though.

The only reason they tried to make a different single player story was because of the research they did on UT2k4. They found that only about a third to half of players that bought it actually played online. I don't think they figured in people who only bought it for LAN parties or mods. I played more on a LAN with my wife and a few friends than online. I also played the dodgeball mod for quite some time, getting to the top of the ladder in it on csports.com. Yeah, I was the number one player of a DODGEBALL mod for a while, before I deployed. But I don't think they even counted that time on the main servers. So people who bought multiple copies for the CDs, people who played in LANs, people who only played offline, all added up to way more cdkeys than actually played the main game online. So they tried to make a "real" single player game for those people.
