    Knifing.

    Select what one you want^^

I ask because in a regular mode today a guy came around a corer about 5 feet away, he charged, I P90 sprayed, got a good few hits, then he knifed me and I died... kinda gyped...

I actually like how it is now, but I haven't used it a lot (maybe 5% of my kills are knife), nor been knifed too often. So I might change my opinion over time.

Clicking once to switch to knife, then another to do a 1-hit kill would probably be OK by me too.

But I do like the instant-kill ability. I hated having to melee someone twice as in the past...or sneaking up behind them and having to shoot them in the leg and then bash them. I think if you're able to get that close, you should be able to kill them with 1 hit.

In the situation you gave, I think you panicked a bit with the spray 'n pray. If you had shot him in the upper chest/head, he wouldn't have gotten to you.

More than one, knife held out, click to slash.
Classic BF1942/FH knife way. I love shoveling enemies in FH when its a knife vs shovel battle. Plus knife combat is longer if more than one hit to kill, even though it's about just circling the enemies and just clicking fast enough. Two hits to kill at most though.

I really like how it is now, it feels like a last defence mechanism

Yeh, I kinda like it, never seen it used like this before... but I suppose they wanted it to be like in CoD2 with the one button to melee. It's unique.

I like how it is now. I think its meant to be fast, just like in the tutorial, its faster to switch to pistol than to reload and its even faster to melee than to switch to pistol.

Also, if you miss once with the knife, it takes a minute to reset before you can strike again.

Yea, the P90 spray is kinda bad, but if he was that far, I would think to spray upwards so it reaches his head by the time he is in striking distance to you.

I liked the previous Call of Duty's melee system, you did not lunge at all, all you did was swing your weapon around and try to hit the person with the butt of your weapon. So, I voted to keep it how it is. If it were melee button and took more than one hit, knife fighting would be a such a pain.

Which is exactly why I like the new system better.

I'm coming at this from BF2 where you had to:

                    1-Switch weapons
2-Hope you actually "hit" because the knife was so damn inaccurate.

(Who else has horror stories of repeatedly stabbing the ground while trying to kill a prone sniper?) :shakehead

It meant the only time you knifed was as a humiliation kill against someone who didn't know you were there.

The CoD4 system is brilliant IMO. :yay: It adds a new layer to combat, once you get used to it. It remove needless complexity from the process, which leads to smoother game play. And there is a definite trade off for trying a knife kill. You're very much exposed for that second or two while you recover which is enough to get shot or knifed yourself.

i think the one button insta kill is too console like (halo sword). plus, i like having to stitch to the knife in order to use it and that way in kill cam they can see you walk up to them with the knife out and ready to stab.

I agree with cantina. It adds another component to the gameplay - which is good.

I got 3 or 4 hits on him. I dunno about you, but I think that's good enough at that range, no?

Besides, I miss knife fights from CS:S and other games. It was fun, and still an insta kill if you hit them in the back.

Also, why is it you can knife someone instantly while sprinting and keep on going, but the guns have a delay to pull them out?

I just hate knives in this game, this piss me off, it's too easy and everyone goes around feeling like their pro because they used them :dead:

Yeah, you are supposed to use your gun, not have sword fights :S
                            This is modern war tbh.
