doh! progress is pointless - what am i missing?

i'm loving battlefield 2 - i'm getting kills, winning awards and promotions, but none of it is registering on my profile. after a couple of rounds, i return to the main menu to check on my stats and i'm still a private with no registered playing time.

i only play on servers that come up with the RANKED filter on.

anyone got any ideas?
