News Flash! M48 Patton Tangles with PT-76. Five enemy Tanks Destroyed! No losses to US Armor!

Today I would like to bring a little news to the community on what we have been doing at Eve of Destruction. It has been several months since we have been able to put out some newsworthy posts, but I am happy to say that we are now able to begin displaying the fruits of our labor in items to come with the next installment of the mod. Recently, we posted some news on some new items to be found within the mod build. I am happy to say that today, we have some more news!

Therefore, let's get this show on the road!

    M48 Patton Tank

The M48s saw action during the Vietnam War being assigned to U.S. Marine Corps units, arriving in Vietnam in 1965, as well as three U.S. Army battalions, the 1/77th Armor near the DMZ, the 1/69th Armor in the Central Highlands, and the 2/34th Armor near the Mekong Delta.

The M48s provided adequate shelter for its crew from small arms, mines and RPGs. The M-48 Pattons were the only vehicles in Vietnam that could reasonably protect their crews from land mines and were often used for mine sweeping operations along highway 19 in the Highlands. They were typically raced down the shoulders of the highway at top speed searching for landmines. If a landmine was encountered. No major damage was taken by the tank. The most serious damage was a lost road wheel or two.

The M48 was very effective against infantry and was used alot in the infantry support role. It was capable of taking alot of punishment. The M48 served its crews well until being replaced by the M551 Sheridan tank later in the war.

    M548 Military Cargo Hauler

The M548A1 is an unarmored full-tracked vehicle that provides transportation of ammunition and general cargo to forward areas in support of field units. The vehicle is capable of carrying a six-ton payload and four men sitting abreast in its cab.

The rear cargo deck accommodates the transport of troops and/or materiel. The M548A1 is transportable in C130 and C141 aircraft, will ford water up to 40 inches deep and travels easily over rough terrain and highways. The 7.62mm or .50 caliber machine gun can be mounted over the cab and operated from a hatch in the cab roof.

The M548 Chassis is also employed in many other military roles. Most notably as a gun platform. Look for more on this fine piece of equipment to come soon.

The following has already been reported, but for those who may have missed this jewels in the jungle. I have tacked them on to the end of this news post!

    ZSU-57 Self Propelled AA

The ZSU-57-2 saw action for the first time in the Vietnam War, in use by Vietnam People's Army. Like many other self-propelled anti-aircraft guns, it was often used against ground targets. The anti-aircraft performance of the ZSU-57-2, however, was quickly found to be unsatisfactory. Its fire controls were not good enough, the rate of fire not high enough and the turret traverse not fast enough to effectively intercept jet aircraft at low altitudes (it must be noted that its Western counterpart, the M42 Duster armed with the famous Bofors 40 mm gun, had similar problems).

    PT-76 Amphibious Recon Tank

The PT-76 was developed in 1949-1951 under the leadership of Z.Y. Kotin, and officially adopted on 16 August 1952. The production started in 1953 at the Volgograd Tractor Factory. In 1958 an improved variant, PT-76B, was adopted and remained in production until 1963.

The PT-76 was employed by North Vietnam several times during the Vietnam War. As part of the Battle of Khe Sanh (1968), during the Battle of Lang Vei twelve PT-76s were used in an assault against a US Special Forces camp. At least five were destroyed by Recoiless rifle fire and LAWs, but they were decisive in the successful assault.

At least five PT-76s were involved in the only tank-against-tank battle of the war prior to the US withdrawal, on March 3, 1969 at Ben Het near the Laotian border, with two of them destroyed by US Army M48A3s of the 1st Battalion 69th Armor.

    M60 Patton Main Battle Tank

The M60 Patton tank was not fielded within the Vietnam conflict by the US in the Tank role. It was however in Vietnam as a bridge layer and a Combat Engineer Vehicle. Therefore, why include the M60 Patton.. For the very reason that since the days of BF1942 there has always been a M60 Patton in the mod build. Therefore, we have included the M60 Patton Tank within this mod build of Eod on BF2. It just wouldn't be the same without it.

There you have it gang! EoD is alive and well. We've got tons more stuff to show off in another post as well. Every tank needs infantry support and infantry support for armor doesn't walk.. That can only mean one thing..

The M113's and their variants are coming! Stay tuned for more news!! :yay:

They are on the EoD mod forums, they are just not on the front page. The script we have doesn't do that anymore. Unless Wilson or Lotte puts it on the front page. It does'nt show up.

However, there is still stuff in the news section. In fact, look for a new news release this weekend.
