Thinking of playing BF2 again...

So, i havent played ths game since it came out basically, and ive thought about firing it up again. any tips on what soldier i should beef up first? Do i really need the booster packs?

I assume you're talking about weapon unlocks...that's all that one can really change in BF2. In 2142, there are class-specific upgrades like increased resupply, increased healing, additional grenades, shields, invisibility, etc.

If you remember what class you liked playing the most, I'd start with that. The weapon unlocks aren't really a big deal...no unlock will turn an average player into a good player. The only arguable exception is the G36E medic gun. I wouldn't worry about getting expansions until you play the basic game and decide you like it enough to play it for some time.

if u have Special Forces (expansion pack) you can unlcok a 2nd tier of unlocks for BF2 vanilla...so

spec ops - SCAR-L
sniper - L96A1
medic - g36c
engineer - mp7
antitank P90
support - mg36
assault - F2000
