Battlefield 2142 was running until I installed patch 1.40 final version. Now the game fails loading maps at about 60 percent for both SP and MP everytime. The game is unplayable without hacking your game registry files. I should not have to do that to fix a problem they created. That's just asking for trouble. I enjoyed playing the game but now it is worthless. Farewell bf2142. Rest In Pieces.

it's the infamous "radical" bug and it's already been documented. it popped up before the patch actually.

it's mind boggling that DICE has not addressed this severe show stopping bug that prevents players from even loading the map! if i didn't know about these forums, i wouldn't know how to fix it and would've assumed it's just my PC. apparently, it's a bug related to the game's in-game advertising component.

remember, even after you fix it, it will come back eventually. whenever it freezes like that, just delete the radical file again. i've had to delete the thing over a dozen times already.

Have you noticed how sometimes when you die and select another kit then get rezzed you are rezzed with that kit? I am still trying to find out the exact cause of this, cause it could be really helpful in clan matches (the ability to change kits without losing a ticket)...

It's called radial, not radical....lol. :laugh: It's easy to delete, but you are right, they need to fix it asap as it is very annoying. Imagine how many people stopped playing the game cos they didn't know how to solve the problem!

Just got a new bug from bf2142 patch 1.40 final: the game listed a memory violation error. It disappeared too fast to write it down. After I got the game to load maps after renaming the radial.cfb, the game played fine until I got the error message saying something about a memory error. The game shut down fast. I know it is not my system, and memory size is not a problem, drive space has plenty. Could be something sharing the same memory location, don't know for sure. It vanished too fast to find out.

I have noticed it, has helped in some cases and some not.

You are right though, player traffic has dropped signifantly because of that very problem. That is what stopped me from playing for a while until I found out how to fix it myself. I shouldn't have to do that. It is extremely risky editing and tampering with registry files if you don't know what you are doing. I would agree that is the very reason many have stopped playing or slowed them down.

Got a new one tonight. Just joined a server and was running around when I got a complete freeze. Not unusual - however I couldn't tab out from this one, even CRT-ALt-DEL wouldn't budge it. After a restart I loaded up and it looked like my profile files had gone. Optmised shaders again etc but when I start the game and it gets to the kit screen my mouse cursor disappears. This happens every time I try to start a game so I can't get into the game. Tried deleting my cache folder etc.

Time for another reinstall and download of all the ****ing patches and NS updates again.

edit: Questions for EA. Why do you hide the patches under deep layers of navigation. Why the **** are your videos encoded with .mov - I am not using a MAC. Why can't I just download the NS expansion without installing all that EA LINK bloatware ****e. I thank you

I have all the patches saved on my pc incase I ever have to re-install. Even the northern strike, so i dont have to download EA link again... you should do that too.....

The worst bug I've noticed so far would be the amount of server crashs I've been getting. Sometimes its like 1 in every 2 games is stopped by a server crash and when it happens 4 times in a row it just makes me want to stop altogether.

Very true, cod4 allows you to play with no dvd in the drive. But that may explain the reason behind the many cracked servers....? :hmm:
