Stats dont save?

I only recently managed to get the game working through steam and have been having great fun with it.

But everytime i quit the game and come back to it, all the XP and the unlocks i had obtained are gone and im reset back to 0 again?

Why?

Hmm strange one mate, i have no idea what the problem could be, as the stats are all on the users comp.

The stats are technically bound to each cd key, so if u put in another one it will reset them. Myabe steam is screwing around with key. i dont want to change back to my old key to see if it still has stats because iam afraid ill loose stats on my present one.

There have been problems where if players play on a ranked server and then play on the an unranked server, then everything will be reset.

Just to be clear, the problem happens if a player plays on an unranked server that HAS BEEN SET UP INCORRECTLY, although usually accidentally, by the server admin (simple error: using a / symbol instead of \ in a directory pathway).

The majority of unranked servers are fine.

If people want to be safe, back up your "mpdata" stats file every time you finish playing on a ranked server, before switching to an unranked one. Or play only ranked servers until a patch comes out.

well i found out my stats are not reset, they are just not loaded at the first initial screen. Once i get ingame and play a round my stats are back as they are loaded into the map, but just to be sure, how do i back up my stats data when im using the Steam version?

I have asked at the steam forums but got no reply.

go to:

C:\Program Files\Activision\Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare\players\profiles\Ezekiel

(obv yours wont be my name :p)

Then there is a file called MP Data just copy and paste it somewhere.

Where was it installed, is it not in 'Program Files' at all?

Maybe would be in the 'Valve' folder?

C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam etc

its under a valve folder then under many separate folders but i cant seem to find it.

I have asked on the steam forums with no reply.
