network connection icon missing

ok I've tried everything. I'm about to do a system restore. My networking connection icon for my ethernet connection is not showing up, but the dopey firewire is. My connection is working because I am here. I just don't understand where the icon went. I uninstalled and reinstalled the nvidia ethernet driver time and time again. Anyone have this issue before?

Someone just disabled the option. Did you just update your NIC drivers?
