Is it better to have a low resolution and high graphics, or is it better to have a high resolution and low graphics?

High resolution, hands down. I can't play any game at less that 1280 x 1024 resolution, even with the graphics turned up it will look like crap.

Lower grpahics give you an advantage though things dont look as preety, There is less cluter and less shadows for the enemy to hide with.

plus higher resolution helps deal with the nasty aliasing (jagged edges)

also learn where the shadows are then turn off lighting efects, that way you know where you can hide (if your enemy likes to show off their graphics) and you can see them if they think they are sneaky and try to hide their.

In my opinion i would try to find a nice balance for example playing medium at 1024 instead of going flat low, trying turning stuff like terrain, effects and lighting down.
