Between a rock and a hard place.

My usual bent is for sniper play. I get a good buzz from taking my time, moving into a position using good backdrop, cam & stealth...........the end result is a good shot/kill.

What annoys me is when I carry out the above and I believe that i am in a position not attenable by the enemy and somehow I get blown away.

Example... I played MEC on the Dragon Valley Map (Sniping only/no river crossing allowed). I was prone and wedged into a position with the bridge wall on my left and a huge mound of earth and trees on my right. My forward field of view was less than 45 degrees so I was looking down into an enemy compound through long grass. I had full sight of the compound building roof and the hill/trees to its left. Before I moved into position I scanned for any movement from that area.
Twice I got hit by the same guy using an M95. Usually you can see muzzle flash/sniper movement for reference but I saw nothing, I was a first time kill on both occasions. If the shots were kosher, I take my hat off to the guy, your position was well placed and impossible to detect. However, I have to ask. Do hacks exist that not only allow you to see the enemy no matter where they are but also engage them as well. In other words behind walls and other structures. If this is the case, it sure does take the fun out of the game and is only marginally more annoying than getting knifed/shot/grenaded by some idiot that cant read the rules of no crossing!!!

Yes its called aimbot, however im not sure if the bullets are capable of turning corners. Keep in mind as well that the enemy does not see the tall grass so you may think it is hiding you but really the grass is not visible to the enemy.

Doesn't matter what cover you're using, anyone can tell where your head is just by hovering over you to make your name tag visible, once that is up, just aim in the middle and below and boom, headhsot.

There are glitches in this game that allow you to crawl into rocks, enabling you to shoot out. No muzzle flash is visible from the other side and anyone that attempts to shoot you will hit the rock.

I know it is easy to be paranoid in this day and age that a lot of people are using aimbots on BF2. If you are worried this is the case and want to play seriously, then do what I do and play BattleRecorder servers only.

If you are ever in doubt, you can review the footage of the player who shot you and make your own mind up and report with evidence if you see fit.

If however I stray from BattleRecorder servers, then I expect to get tw****d from every conceivable angle with single head shots from every weapon going!

If you're above the enemy and you can see them, chances are they can see you (or at least your red name tag xD).

Still its hard to spot a sniper at that range even if they were called out on the minimap.

Thanks for the input. I take it these hacks can give a person "God" like qualities. Isn't Punk Buster supposed to eliminate/kick ppl using such stuff. If not how do you spot a cheater???
I have watched a few videos (you tube etc) on BF2 sniping. My aim is the same and as good as those I watch on the video's except most of my enemy seem to "shrug" off my bullet, return fire and Im gone!!! I hit a guy straight between the shoulder blades today..........nothing, he continued to run away.
I have laid behind a wall with my cross hairs on an alley way, the enemy appears and before I can zero my cross hairs, he has raised his own weapon and Im history. I know some of these guys are good, but some seem to good.
Final question (at the moment).....what is a good ping rate and how does it affect my performance??

I would say that most are just good, waiting for people as a sniper doesn't usually work too well, as a simple jump and prone can take care of the sniper easily. A good number of times if you hit somebody in the head it will make a small poof of dust and there's nothing you can do about it other than hit them again.

For the ping, I try to stick below 50 and use the settingsmanager.floatset GSDefaultLatencyCompensation command in console to adjust the lag compensation. You type that into the console like this, for let's say 25 ping I would do this "settingsmanager.floatset GSDefaultLatencyCompensation 0.030000. The difference between 20 ping and 100 ping is huge as it affects the reliability of your shots hitting the enemies' hitboxes.

If the person had ultra low graphics settings, he could probably easily see you.

first off.....i sniped ya at least twice today silverfox, but i have no cheats. 2nd purplebarney how would having the graphics set lower make you see your target better? 3rd fox the lower the ping the better it is for you. When i'm on that server i'm usually between 40-60. Which is good. The higher the ping the more likely you will get sniped rather than snipe.
