Just wondering if the GeForce 128MB 8400M GS can run BF2 and on what settings,

Probably a mix of medium and low, with possibly one or two on high (but don't hold your breath). The 64 bit memory bus on that card really doesn't help at all.

The 8600M GS looks to be somewhere between a 7600GS and a 7600GT (closer to the GT than the GS),

which would probably allow it to run the game with a mix of medium and high (dynamic lighting and dynamic shadows on low) depending on the resolution of the screen.

Specs on the laptop with the 8600,

Dell Insprion 1520
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0GHz
Windows Vista Home Edition
4GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz
160GB 5200RPM hard drive
256MB GeForce 8600M GT

Just hope that with that much ram in it that Vista will be the 64 bit version.
