Game not starting up (searched for it..)

First off, I searched about 10 forums for the solution to my problem.

Without any succes.

So, I start the game, the tank windows appears, the screen turns black and then...yeah, desktop.

What I've done so far, given what other forums advised me.

- Reinstalled game (about 7 times)

- DL'ed Patch 1.41 FULL and installed it also about seven times

- Installed the patch in safe mode

- Installed the latest graphics card driver

- Installed the nVidia driver of the installation CD

- Installed an even older driver...

- Set the value of Fullsize in VideoDefault.con from 0 to 1

- Tried to start the game without ANY patches

- Updated DirectX independently.

And yup, it still doesn't work. :/

System:
Athlon AMD 3000+
1024 MB Ram
Geforce 7600GT

Is that another way of saying you tried running the game in windowed mode?

Someone in another forum suggested it and I just did what he told me..

Ok, go into your BF2 shortcut and in the target line change the 1 after fullscreen to a 0.
So it will look something like this:

\EA Games\BF2.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 0
You should see an error message, tell us what it says.

I dont know if this applies, but I had a similar problem where when i started vf2 up it would go black and then go to desktop. THe problem was my monitor settings. I changed moniters from a good monitor too a crappier. With my good one I had bf2 settings resolution to something my crappy monitor could not support. So bf2 just kept crashing to desktop untill i manually changed the settings in the bf2 files.

yeah it could be a monitor problem...

try this..go into My Documents and delete the Battlefield 2 folder and see if that helps

This is what appears when the entry in the Video.con is set to 800x600@60Hertz



If set to 1280x1024@85Hertz (my desktop resolution), no error occurs, but the window is closed immediately.

I'll now follow the thread you posted and see how far I come.

I already tried that, but w/o succes. The black screen that appears after I start bf2 up just lasts a bit longer until it boots me to my desktop again.

As a little conclusion to this whole Start, Window, Blackscreen, Desktop thing, which occurs for quite a lot of people, a problem with the refresh rate seems to be the general explanation. Either it has got something to do with your settings or the monitor you use needs a reinstall or a reconfiguration.

i also jst noticed this:

you'll also want to install newer drivers for ur 7600Gt
