I've wondered the same thing, asked quite a few people but no one seems to know. Maybe someone here will?

Couldn't really search for this because I didn't know what it was called, but I had a question the regarding aircraft HUD. If you look in the POTD:

I was wondering what that circle was to the bottom right of the crosshair. Its the one that shows up when your stationary and moves around when you move. For a while, I thought it was used as a sort of placeholder so you know how to get back to your original position (when hovering), but it doesn't work that way all the time.

Anyone know what it is?
