Whats the best way to check your FPS?

I hear a lot of talk about it and I know what it stands for. No idea how to check it or how it effects the game.

    Anyone???

      renderer.drawfps 1

Make sure you have a space in between "s 1"

There will be two numbers at the top left of you screen.
The first is the actual FPS the second number is ??? I forget; it is usually a lot lower though.

      It will look like this:

      75.5/15.5

Fraps is a good program to have running in the background, or you can sue the drawfps command.

having low fps will greatly effect you in game, I have a decent rig so I play above my monitors refresh rate 100% of the time (60hz), so that helps. Anything over your monitors refresh rate you won't notice, but say like 20fps you'll be having troubles aiming.

hit the console button, the squiggly one above tab, it will open a small window on the top of the screen, the console. then type in the command line as the others said. renderer.drawfps 1

NOW, you're talking my language. So, what is a "good" FPS?

For human eyes like 30-40 but for gaming stable 70+ is minimum

                    That depends

But having a solid 75 FPS is good.
Having a solid 40 is average.

By solid, I mean never dipping below that number even with lots of action/particle effects happening onscreen.

But this is my opinion others may beg to differ.

I run about 80-100 solid FPS with no dynamic shadows and lighting.
With those turned to high I'm running 30-50 on maps like warlord/iron gator with 64 people.

On a side note: Some people might take offense to the geek comment.
You might want to rephrase that as something like: I'm having trouble understanding this technical talk could you please dumb it down for me.

                    Just a suggestion

Re: Whats the best way to check your FPS?

easier way tbh, something that metallica said in another thread :p

                        Open your Audio.con with notepad from;
                        C:\Documents and Settings\Steven\My Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\0001\

Copy the 2lines below into the file and save.
                        Code:
                        [B]renderer.drawfps 1
                        game.lockfps 300[/B]
                        AudioSettings.setVoipEnabled 1
Right click Audio.con and mark as read-only, click ok,
now each time you load up your FPS will be shown in the top left corner and you dont have to keep typing the commands in all the time :)

The human eye has a theoretical 'fps' of around 24, thats why most tv is 25 fps, any thing above 25 you will not notice.
