      If you're getting anything other than an 8800GTS/GTX, then you should buy a Radeon x19xx series, like the x1950 Pro or x1950XT.

      From lowest end to highest end, it's ATI Radeon x300->X600 (e.g. x300, x1600)=>Geforce x100->7950 (e.g. 6100, 7600GT, 8600GT, 7950GT)=>Radeon x800->x950 (e.g. x850XT, x1950XTX, x1950 Pro, HD2900XT)=>Geforce 8800x (e.g. 8800GTS, GTX, Ultra)

      Basically, nVidia for the low end cards, ATI for high-end DX9 cards, nVidia for high-end DX10 cards. A high-end DX9 ATI card will outdo a mid-range nVidia DX10 card (eg, x1950 Pro vs 8600GTS).

        I would also recommend in the meantime before you maybe go for a dx10 friendly upgrade the nvid 6800 for bf2.

          Guys, the cards you suggest are all great, but he has a LOW PROFILE case, in case you missed it. The top notch cards do not come in low profile versions. The Radeon X1300 w/ 256 MB of on-board memory and a 128bit memory interface is arguably the fastest low profile card out there. Nvidia has the 6200, 7200, and 8200 available in low profile, but those cards only come with a 64bit memory interface which IMHO is at least partially responsible for the lags the guy is experiencing.

            Ah, a Dell. Right, you're pissed unless you can get a new case, PSU, motherboard, cooling system, etc...

                It's more to do with how they make everything non-standard and proprietary.

                    If you're going to upgrade, make sure it's a custom build...

                    It's excusable the first time but then onwards :shakehead:

                          No, unless it explicitly says low profile, it is not a low profile card. The X300 is available both in standard profile and low profile versions. Check out Newegg and search for low profile card. Also make sure the PCI-E slot in your computer is a PCiE-16 slot and not a PCIE-1 slot which some computers have. (PCIEx1 is about an inch long, PCiEx16 is about four inches long)

                              1. Look inside the computer case. The right side panel removes easily, don't be afraid to take it off. Don't use force, it should either pop out or slide out (pushing it backwards) after you engage the release mechanism. I believe there is a latch in the back that releases the panel. It should take only seconds. (note that on regular computers, it is usually the left panel that removes, but DELL's are different)

                              2. Go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:PCIExpress.jpg and look at the picture. A PCIex16 slot is the long slot (2nd and 4th from top) A PCIex1 slot is the very short one (3rd from top). Don't confuse it with a regular PCI slot (the one on the bottom), which can be easily distinguished from PCIex16 slots by its shorter length and the lack of retention latches.

                              3. See which slot you have (note that your current video card may or may not be using this slot, depending on whether your video is on-board)

                              4. Buy the appropriate card & install it (remember not to touch any components inside & completely disconnect the power source).
