Why do parachutes have collision meshes?

They only serve to teamkill, wall glitch, and kill aircraft. Wouldn't it make more sense to just let everything pass through them? I mean at what point in the developement did they say, "oh, the parachutes need collision meshes..."?

Example, fly an aircraft through a parachute... Paratrooper gets the kill...

i think they wanted some realism. first, imagine ur standing in the middle of the big crane in gulf of oman and u jump down the middle and u cant deploy ur parachute becuz the space is too small and in real life, u wouldnt be able to deploy ur parachute inside a space that tight.

if u just let everything pass through it, u could deploy a parachute in the crane.

and thats just one example. when ur chute bumps into a tree, the collision tears the chute and u fall, injuring urself slightly, which is semi-realistic. if there was no collision mesh, ur shute would just pass right through and ud be fine

Ya, but doesn't EA always fail at realism? :p

They don't always fail, at least they sort of tried on this one.

I have no idea what your trying to say.....the chute in BF2 doesn't really get affected by anything. I run into walls all the time and the chute doesn't hurt me or make me fall. It is a solid object, thats it.

Think about it....key word, collision. It just means it is coded as a solid object and not like a bush or something that you can pass through.

hmm...happens to me all the time whenever i crash into a building. like if i miss landing on the hotel in gulf of oman, and i slam into the wall, sometimes my chute closes and then i fall. also happens when i fall into trees.

Most annoying when you jump out a chopper, only to TK everyone still in it because you opened it too soon >_>

Actually I jumped off the TV station once and landed ontop of someone elses parachute and rode it to the ground, no lie.

There are some bushes that you cant shoot trought in BF2. Annoying as hell

I think the chute sucks, as i took me about 200 hours till i was in a pisition to kill a parachuter with my jet, only when i went to splat him all over my cockpit, like in the movie Eraser, my jet turns into a fire ball in the sky, killing me staright away and giving the parachuter the kill.
At first i thought i was just unlucky and had maybe just sucked him into my jet in-take,but since then i have tryed it about 7-8 times and everytime i die and the parachuter lives and gets the points,so i don't bother doing it anymore.

Why does it seem no matter how many times you tap 9 your chute never deploys and you fall to your death? Especially in spots like near the hotel in karkand on that rooftop that you can get on via the stairs and over looks some of the spawns... I always fall to my death when I jump down towards the hotel flag...
